We didn’t stand independently until a couple days before 13 months then he took two steps a few days later and now is properly walking at 13.5 months. It can develop really quickly once they get started so I really wouldn’t worry! They have until 18 months to walk before they’re considered ‘late’ and even then lots walk later than that with no issues. You can try putting furniture close together so LO goes between and has to let go! For us it was a confidence thing so lots of fuss when he let go and lots of cuddles and ‘oopsy daisy let’s try again’ if he fell. Also keep him barefoot as much as humanly possible! Shoes make it much harder for them to feel the floor and get the right balance x
My son is the same, he will be 13months on the 28th. He loves standing up holding on things, just about cruises but doesn’t stand on his own at all. They will do it when they’re ready x
@Adelle I think he’s strong enough, just lacks the confidence. You’d be surprised how much they can do if they have confidence! I agree with @Yasmin keep doing those things and encourage him to stand. Try to hold is hands, then maybe a few hours later let go of one hand, keep singing and make no big deal about him standing! He’ll catch on very very soon x
My boy is 13 months. Can't stand independently, cruise or walk. He doesn't even want to crawl! Physio are not concerned, they said he has the strength he's just not willing to do any of it yet! Trying not to worry but it's hard not to compare!
Babies are so funny aren’t they. @Meena if it eases your mind, my niece one day stood up and ran at 17 months. She was literally a couch potato before, just sitting 🤣
Our little girl is 13 months next week and she still won't stand independently. Like your little boy, she'll happily cruise around the furniture, whizz around with her walker or stand holding just one hand. We think it's just her confidence as sometimes she's barely holding on. They'll get there, then we'll wish they hadn't 😂 x
@Sarah this sounds exactly like my little boy!! We are sure if he had the confidence he could walk. There has been a few times he lets go and stand there distracted by something and as soon as he realises he sits straight down 😂 most of the time he’s literally touching the sofa with one finger and not even leaning on it x
@Amal yeah I’m pretty sure it’s his confidence too! Because sometimes he will let go when he’s distracted by something but as soon as he realises he panics and sits back down x
@Libby yeah we've noticed our little girl has let go a few times but grabs back on Very quick when she realises 😂what are they like 😂x
Awww @Libby just pretend it’s absolutely nothing him standing! Maybe if you guys sing together standing, holding a toy or something for a few mins will ease his mind. He’ll stand and walk in no time! The two go hand in hand.
My daughter was 13 months on the 6th and doesn’t stand independently, I’m not worried because she’s strong on her legs and can cruise furniture and hold on with one hand x
You shouldn't be worried. Its combining strength, balance, and different textures which can take time. My little started walking a week after her birthday (Nov 2nd). Recommend giving more opportunities to walk without shoes or socks. No walker. No holding little hand either to walk. You'll notice they'll adjust their feet based on having your hands. Usually an unrealistic way to walk like on toes or super fast , etc. Have your lo walk between you and your hubs/so legs. So fairly close space and then continue to expand that space further apart. If they are already cruising, your little will be tempted to continue to hold on to everything so utilize a space with less things to hold onto but still safe. I felt like we went from 5 steps without assistance or falling down, a few days later it was like 7, then 10, then 15 then she was walking. Hope that helps.
Not an issue! Same with us, she started crawling a bit later than other babies at around 10 months and pulling to stand around 11 months with cruising only really started at 12 months. Give it a few more months like everyone said above!
Our girl is the same, she has stood a few times when distracted with something but otherwise not showing any interest. I don’t think we should worry and they will in their own sweet time 😊
