Hillingdon or Wexham?

Hi all, I've heard mixed reviews about the labour ward care at Hillingdon which is making me quite anxious to have my baby there :/ I know for most cases it really depends on the day, but I would love to hear some recent stories for Hillingdon or Wexham that would help me decide. Wexham seems like the better option but that's just a feeling right now! Thank you so much xxx

I just had my baby girl on the 8/12 at Hillingdon and it was a FANTASTIC experience. All the midwives, doctors, surgeons, nurses… everyone! We’re absolutely delightful. So kind and so caring. I ended up not having my “planned” birth (won’t go into it) but despite this, it was the best experience and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’m so grateful for Hillingdon and everyone we met, and everyone who supported my partner and I. The only negative I have is the wards are HOT! (For baby purposes) so that’s not the most comfortable. But I think you’ll find all hospitals and wards will be like this xxx

@Harriet thanks for putting me at ease! And congratulations on your little one and happy to hear you had such a positive experience! Noted about it being hot for baby, it does seem out of our control...

I changed from hillingdon to Wexham at 36 weeks and was the best decision for me. I really wanted a water birth which hillingdon do not offer anymore so was a no brainer and I got my water birth 😊 will also say the 4 weeks I had appoitments at wexham compared to the appoitments at hillingdon were SO much better! Hillingdon would always cancel, re arrange my appointments, change where they were, always a different midwife, were as wexham was always the same and never cancelled. Everyone has different experiences so like you said it just depends

@Jodie thanks for your comment. That's really annoying re the appointment changes...was it a faff to change hospitals that late into your pregnancy? I'm high risk and just want to be looked after properly!

@RG yeah it was driving me mad😂 well I left it so late because I was worried it would be a pain changing but it was really easy, had to do another booking appoitment just so I was on their notes and blood tests and that was it jsut carried on as normal. Even the blood test I got there was better than any I had at Hillingdon. I didn't even feel it 😂 Also another plusf you drive the car park at Wexham is alot better, the spaces are bigger and there are a lot more

I had my baby last December at Hillingdon and was fine. But I know another that did and doesn’t recommend. I have 2 pals that had theirs recently at wexham and also mixed reviews! If I were you maybe see if you can visit Both and get a vibe? Also think of convenience - if you or anyone needs to shoot home and come back where is close? My bf was sent home while I waited to get to 10cm but he was only 10 mins away so it was fine. And also think of what you want for birth cause Hillingdon doesn’t have a pool but wexham does. Good luck!! xx

Also I had the same midwife for my appts, annoyingly apart from my last one! But yeah they did change dates sometimes but my sis had hers end of 2023 in Watford and had the same. I think generally issues are poor staffing but you’ll see it at all hospitals unfortunately!
