Big baby

Hey ladies, im 23 weeks 4 days now, had a visit with my obg today, she measured my bump and said that its gonna be a big baby, also she mentioned that baby is 89 percentile as per my anamoly scan which was done on 19th week, should i be worried about this? Am i doing anything wrong? Or should i be doing something? My doc was in a hurry so couldnt ask anything about this ☹️

Nothing you can do about how big the baby is going to be. It's also pretty early to predict, and ultrasound measurements are notoriously way off a lot of the time. Don't worry about it. I've had 2 big babies (8 & 9.5 lbs) with giant heads, both vaginal births. Tearing, stitches, easy healing. While it doesn't go that well for everyone, a large baby in and of itself isn't anything to freak out over :)

I heard that, mom's who have gestational diabetes tend to have big babies, is that true?

My first son was considered a big baby. It didn't change anything during my pregnancy. He came out 8lb 9oz naturally. Some doctors may push for c section though because they might be concerned about the baby's shoulders getting stuck during vaginal delivery.

I had my anatomy scan 2 weeks ago and my boy was in the 93rd percentile measuring 5 days ahead. I had my follow up today because he was stubborn and he only gained 4 ounces and now is only 2-3 days ahead. Its still early so they can even out for weight or stay big!

This is my second pregnancy With my son they said I was 97% And I needed to deliver him early he was going to be over 10 pounds I have scheduled c-section at 39 weeks Because of my cervix being tilted to the right completely closed That boy came out 8 pounds and 15 oz I wouldn't worry too much It could be a tall baby cause mine was at 23 inches tall He has some long legs

@Ashley this makes me feel better, mine was also 97th percentile 2.5 weeks ago. I have another “bonus” scan at week 28 to check in on his growth. I’m trying to watch what I eat and stay super fit to prevent him growing unnecessarily large (within the means of my control) but have to admit I’m nervous about potential complications.

@Naima When it comes to ultrasound It's really hard to predict Sometimes they can get it right and sometimes they can be slightly wrong It looks like you have some long legs with the pictures that you have posted Even as my Doctor was trying to get him out almost pulling me off the table he was In the football position I forgot the name of it he was like oh yes this boy is gonna be huge they weighed him and he was shocked He said well thats the first 😅🤦‍♀️ but he did say well he's got some long legs 🤣😂 They measure from top head to Butt cheek😅 It's how they get your measurements for the weight Way I have understood it 🤷‍♀️

@Ashley thank you so much this is super helpful and puts my mind a bit at ease! The dad was a pretty big (but fit) guy— 6’5 and broad shouldered, so this context helps. I am fairly fit and healthy but stress-ate for a few weeks early in the pregnancy because it was unexpected and the dad bounced, so I’ve been feeling guilty that I caused him to grow too fast too early and have been trying to right the ship ever since. I do remember early on in the pregnancy, as the shock wore off, realizing that I will eventually have a teenager who is taller than me so it makes sense that he would start out tall! 😆

@Naima So glad it was helpful for you My dad's short 😅 My mom has long legs But still kind of average Heights I don't know how my baby brother 7.1 With a 23 size shoes 🙈🤷‍♀️ We're watching to see How our son grows too he just turned 3 It is hard to find pants He's very slim the blue jeans he is wearing in his 3 yearold pictures with the football are 3T and they seem to be A little short
