What’s the proper etiquette when flying with a toddler and having them watch an iPad or phone, with or without sound? I know I will try getting him used to headphones but he hates hats so I imagine he won’t want to wear headphones, so at

that point do I just annoy everyone around us with his shows or do I mute everything and hope he still stays entertained?

I think if it’s at a quiet volume it’s okay. Like a whisper voice volume

Agree with @Haley . But you might actually be surprised with headphones. I got my kids character headphones and they loved them.

My daughter hates hats too, but with headphones it’s different since it’s sound coming out and she can see how it’s to the video she’s watching.

I got headphones for mine and we flew on an international flight for 8 hours

Practice now with headphone. And if he won’t use them then no sound. You wouldn’t want to listen to other people watch shows so please use no sound or headphones

You could have the sound maybe on like the lowest setting but I wouldnt have it any louder that people around you can hear. But like my son doesn’t really like stuff either but we got over the head head set and we used it at home and he was okay with it

Agree, try the headphones at home first. It's not fair on another passagers to have the sounds on even in a lower level. I find it annoying personally. No issues with headphones with my son

My bet is that your kid will like the headphones. Once he hears the sound from the iPad, he'll be on board. Try it out in advance if you want confirmation.

My daughter would use the headphones for maybe 20mins and then just watch with no sound.

We had the sound on quite quietly

I wouldn't put the sounds on. With headphones or no sounds. It's kind of rude for other people.

He's 3. He can listen to them quietly or if he wants it a little bit louder just say, "if you want to hear it louder then you need to wear your headphones." And stay firm on that. I'd start practicing that now.

Low volume might be fine. But sure some people are just jerks. I encourage headphones and gummy bears or anything to make that chewing motion as it helps with ear popping. If not too late I had great success with toddlers sleeping through the plane ride by booking flights during their typical nap time

Most airlines will not let anyone (kids and adults) use a device with sound without headphones. Most even have it apart of their rules before the flight takes off. I have seen them tell kids there devices cannot be used without headphones multiple times. They make these headband/ ear warmer looking things my kids don’t seem to mind as much!

@Chris not sure where the misunderstanding came from but my son is not 3, he’ll be 1,5 at the time of the flight, so there’ll be very little bargaining happening

@Ellina oh! Idk where i read 3. But at 1.5, def just let him use it quietly if the headphones just aren't working. If anything you can def practice now.

@Chris yeah for sure buying headphones now and practicing but I’m crazy so I like to overthink and overplan so had to ask and prepare for IF he doesn’t like the headphones 🤷🏻‍♀️🙏🤞

I totally get it. If he doesn't like it & it's listening without headphones isnt allowed on the airline you're flying with then have stuff like aqua art, a busy board, and stem fidget, window suction buddies, a reusable sticker book, and ALL THE SNACKS (this keeps my 22mth old busy when we travel 🤣)
