C section mums help!! šŸ„ŗā¤ļø

Still grieving my ideal home birth as we were so prepared for it šŸ„ŗhad a low risk pregnancy and we were both healthy but now our baby is apparently really huge plus they have just found out I have no amniotic fluid left šŸ˜they donā€™t know what happened with it as my waters havenā€™t gone but they assume baby just drank it and produced more dense urine as we are post term or my placenta is failing. Good news is that we are booked for a c section tomorrow morning and baby is coping well. What things do I need to pack for hospital/ buy for home ? What is the recovery like and how long is the stay in hospital? They took my bloods today but having the pre op tomorrow so didnā€™t have much time to think about questions to ask or anything as it was a bit of a shock.

You will stay over night tomorrow and providing everything ok with you and baby then you may be able to go home the following day. For hospital just the normal bits youā€™d need for a natural delivery - I recommend very loose clothing. I have had two sections, one emergency and one planned and have another on Christmas Eve. I recommend stocking up on pain relief and also getting a stool softener. Hope that helps and all the best tomorrow xx

I ended up having an emergency c section on Wednesday which I hadnā€™t prepped for at all. I would say have some meals in the freezer and get everything handy and easy accessible for when you get home as itā€™s painful to move around (although I also fully dilated and pushed for an hour before they made the call so recovering from both a bit!) make sure you have lots of high waisted pants and clothes ready too :) the c section itself was actually fine (aside from it being an emergency) and a really lovely experience, all the staff were so nice so enjoy as much as you can and good luck! X

I donā€™t think thereā€™s anything specific you need for a section for your hospital bag really. I would recommend having a long charging cable, your own pillow, loose clothing & high waisted pants. Be religious with your pain relief, take it every 2 hours to keep on top of it (in hospital & at home). Drink peppermint tea throughout the day to help relieve / prevent trapped wind. When you can, get up and move around but do not go too far and do rest as much as possible for the first few days, donā€™t let the pain relief lure your into a false sense of being able to do more than you can / should. Tie something to the bottom of your bed when you get home (dressing gown belt, builders straps) to help you sit up in bed. Sleep propped up on lots of pillows for the first few days. Set up a changing station that you donā€™t have to bend down to and generally have things to hand / at a height where itā€™s easily accessible. A planned section is really chilled & relaxed, so try not to worry. Good luck x

Sorry youā€™re not having the birth you wished for. I had a C-section on the 12th at 1400 was home by evening in 13th. Didnā€™t pack anything in particular for a C-section. Make sure you keep up with painkillers I spent first 4/5 days at home pottering around movement helps but donā€™t overdo it. Just know that it does get better and each day youā€™ll notice improvement, all the best šŸ’›

I stayed in hospital for 4 days as bubba kept losing weight as my milk supply was low .. recovery was miles better than I ever thought! I genuinely thought I would be bed ridden but I wasnā€™t at all. I had to have blood thinning jabs every day for 7 days after which stung but I got my partner to do them. Take it easy and keep on top of your meds xx

Not so much things to pack (although definitely recommend big pants that are high waisted) but Iā€™d say as soon as you can, try to start moving around. I had an emergency c section 4 weeks ago tomorrow and my baby was on NICU so had no choice but to get up and walk over to him and from getting up and about (small distances) I felt better quite quickly. Take it all at your own pace though ā™„ļø it still can be a positive birth experience, get a playlist together to listen to in theatre too, that really helped me! X

Highly recommend the Freda Mom C Section Disposable underwear. I wore these whilst in hospital with a maternity pad, and carried on wearing them at home. Very comfortable and soft against the wound. Stock up on pain relief (paracetamol & ibuprofen) at home for when youā€™re discharged. Stool softner was given to me the day after which helped. They sent me home with a whole bottle to take every morning and evening. I had a nightie which was great. The ward was very hot. A hand held fan would be useful. Long phone charger too!

All the best and donā€™t worry or stress as itā€™s not as bad as you think. I just gave birth a week ago via emergency c-section as my labour wasnā€™t progressing over 3 days! Waters didnā€™t break and didnā€™t dilate past 2cm and his movement were reducing although still showing a good heart rate. After 7 days, I have been able to go out shopping to pick up a few bits. Still can be tender but not so much in pain. Move around when you can, and as often as your body allows you too, as it speeds up the healing process x

Thank you so much to everyone, I was able to prep so many things and I feel ready now to meet him ā¤ļø

I didnt take anything extra for a section apart from peppermint tea for the pain with wind. I stayed in 24 hours and then was discharged home. Make sure you keep on top of your painkillers, rest plenty, but also move around as and when you can. I'm 5 weeks pp tomorrow and feeling more normal but I still tire extremely easily.
