Colostrum

Is it normal for baby to move lots when collecting colostrum, I’ve just done my first round and baby is going crazy! (Midwife said I could start)

Yeah I always get lots of movement when collecting. Not sure why, probably hormones?😊

@Sara ah okay! Just worried she was trying to make an entrance haha 😝

I have noticed this too! Really thrashing around in there every time I hand express!!

Mine too x

Slightly off topic - but did you struggle to get anything (at all!) the first few times you hand expressed? I tried twice and nothing.

Yes! I get a lot of movement when collecting too! It always makes me laugh

@Elsa yes! Don’t worry! I got like one drop after trying 3 separate times. It stressed me out. I decided to take the weekend off and chill. I got a pregnancy massage on the following Monday and tried again and success! It can be hard to get the technique down, but I found I have to go much closer to the nipple than I thought! I was going a finger space back from the areola and it was too far. Basically go between the nipple and areola, or right at the base of the areola and see how you get on. Push back, then squeeze gently in for a good few seconds. Repeat until droplets appear. Think of your boobs like an orange and work around it in segments. Also try after a long warm shower and give yourself a little boob massage too. That helps! Also don’t stress if you don’t get any right away. It’s normal. Just means your body might not be ready. Your hormones will be when you give birth! And if you can’t collect it has no affect on your BF journey!

I haven't started yet but maybe it's the oxytocin causing it? ☺️ Just a guess ~

Are you hand expressing? How do you think collected it? Do you syringe from the nipple? I am thinking of using a Hakka to collect but don’t want to over stimulate 🫠 x
