Travelling logistics help!

We have a trip coming up and not sure at all how to manage pram and car seat situation. We aren’t renting a car and will only be taking taxis occasionally, but it doesn’t seem possible to order a taxi with a car seat. But then worried about having to lug our own car seat to the airport and check it in and if it will get damaged. Also wondering if we should buy a travel pram to have in the cabin or check in the pram too? What have others done?

We took our car seat (and full pram) and had the same worries but it was great, no issues. You can get a sturdy bag for them in the hold from Amazon. If you check stuff into the hold, just be mindful it’s a long walk through the airport til you get it back. We used a baby carrier but we went when baby was 3 months so she was much lighter then. If you don’t want the expense of buying a travel pram, apparently you can rent them really quite cheaply as well x

Where are you travelling to? We did Cyprus at 10 weeks just brought a travel pram and then got our hotel to help organise transfers with a baby car seat. We just flew to Australia for Christmas (I’m Aussie) we did a day stop in Oman and we found online affordable transfers to a hotel with car seat (also most countries will allow you to have the baby in the carrier on you in the car. This I’ve found safer as some car seats were a little wobbly) when we landed in Aus I got a car service as well and have gone the same for Singapore and koh Samui flying home. We love our travel pram (bugaboo fly) and carrier through airports and then it means our checked luggage isn’t full on either.

We recently took our car seat and big bugaboo fox 5 bassinet pram away to Dubai and Sri Lanka and it was absolutely fine. We checked our car seat with our bags but kept the pram until the gate where we collapsed it and put it in a travel bag. It’s definitely a lot to transport to and from the hotel but didn’t find it an issue in the airport. If our LO would have been bigger we would have deffo taken a travel pram but the big pram worked fine

@Hazel @Hannah Did you use a padded travel bag for the car seat? Just worried about it getting damaged if checked in. Otherwise could buy a cheap car seat but also need to factor in transporting it with the pram to and from the airport. @Francesca Spain but I asked the hotel and they just directed me to Uber. I couldn’t find any private transfers with car seats.

With my first we went away as she turned 1 (3 years ago). Took our own car seat and checked it in using a carry bag (Amazon) which I padded out with towels, nappies and a bit of bubble wrap (it’s a great way to pack your heavier bits to ease the weight limit on suitcases). You can definitely get private transfers with car seats but in my experience they will not be rear facing and/or quite old so may not be to your liking/preference. I hired a buggy to take away with us rather than take mine as I was worried about the potential damage and the weight of ours. So hired one from a uk company and checked it in - they let you keep it til the boarding gate. Would suggest taking a carrier tho for the other side til you can get it back. Sometimes you’re able to take the lighter buggies on as hand luggage but that’s airline and space dependent

We rented a babyzen yoyo travel pram to take away with us, as it folds down so small we were able to take it on board with us so we had it straight away on the other side. We booked private transfers with car seats and whilst the one going to the accommodation was fine, on the way back it was totally unsuitable for her age (4 months) and it was so unsafe, so I would recommend taking your own, this was Lanzarote fyi. I think you can also hire travel car seats or buy ones specifically targeted for travel that are lighter and easier to install. We will be doing this in the future x
