I think it's about the same?
I think it probably depends on what’s going on with the baby. I had an emergency one and an elective. But I was under general anesthesia for both so they had to get baby out asap. No delayed cord clamping or anything. My guess would be an emergency one has the potential to either be super fast to get it done or very slow if there are complications. I got to hold my baby sooner with the elective
I’ve only had a cat 2 emergency so far and don’t have detailed notes like above but know I went in at midnight, baby was born at 12:52am and think I was out of theatre by 1:45am, took forever I have no idea why think they were having to be careful because me and my son had become high risk (but not to the extent of needing him out urgently) like @Haley said!
I had to have an emergency c section 13 days overdue after 94 hours of contractions and then an induction and still had no progress so ended in a section. If I were to do it again I would defos go for a planned one, then you can be prepared for it and have it over and done with. A planned one will always be during the day so you can have visitors and support if you want it, mines was at 11pm so was exhausted and had less help with the baby during the night x
Thank you all! Wish i wouldve added a spectating option too! I had an unplanned section 4 months ago and i feel it was very quick, but i was also veeeery out of it. If i had to guess, once in theatre i was in and out within 40mins. But i was hoping kt might be quicker if it was planned. Im a bit nervous and my expericne was pretty traumatic, to the point where i wasnt sure i wanted to try for more children. But im already thinking about another baby and so i want to mentally prepare myself for what to expect early to relieve some anxiefy
I had a scheduled one but ended up going into labor 7 hours before it. Turned into an emergency one because I was 8 cm by the time I got to hospital. Was awake and didn’t need GA since I was planning one for a few hours later and had already prepped and fasted for it. She was out about 30 minutes into getting into theater. Took longer to be closed up felt like forever.
My scheduled c section lasted about an hour from prep to closure, baby was out pretty quick
I had a category 1 emergency c section, as baby’s heart rate dropped drastically after the awful pro pes induction they had given me. From when they put the spinal block in, she was born 3 minutes later !!!
Planned is so much more relaxed, cause there’s no rush, there’s no emergency, so it’s probably a lot slower in prep etc. I think the actual section part is the same, & most likely the same with stitching back etc and getting you to recovery room x
I have had both. I think emergency is quicker as they are under time pressure to get baby out. The planned one was a much more relaxed atmosphere where we had our music, everyone introduced themselves, explained what was happening, we had our own music, they gave us options along the way etc.. but I can’t say for sure as I was literally screaming in pain when I had my emergency section.
This question is so funny to me because I have had both an emergency and planned. And I remember thinking during My planned c section 6 months ago “this is taking forever compared to last time” 😂
@Alexis UGH thats what im not looking forward to! I remember my son being delivered so quick and then it felt like forever for them to close me up. And the whole time i was thinking something went wrong and i was going to bleed out😅
Here it was the same for my friend and I. I was an emergency and she was planned.
I had an unplanned c section, and was induced on a Friday due to low fluid. But Sunday early morning my told me the my doctor was gonna come and talk to me. My cervix was only dilated 2 1/5 centimeters, even with the softener, balloon foley inserted, pictocin, I just wasn’t progressing enough. I had already knew what the conversation was going to be about, so I had a conversation with my husband and decided to go through with the c section, I was scheduled for mine at 10am, spoke with my doctor a little before going down, my son was born by 10:59am and was back in the room by 11:45 ish

I had an cat 2 emergency c section, due to babies hr dropping after each contraction, he had the cord wrapped round his neck. I was taken to theatre just before 2p. and my lil boy was born at 1413. And back to the ward by 3. All the staff introduced themselves. And I had the choice of what music I wanted on. It was such a calm atmosphere. Which really surprised me. Even though it was an em section. It was an amazing experience.
I had mine on Wednesday. In theatre at 8:09, spinal administered at 8:18, first incision at 8:27, baby out at 8:35. Delayed clamping for 2 minutes then off to the nurses station with his dad for checks and cord cut. Back in my arms for 8:45. Leaving theatre at 9:01.
