Topical Vit A/retinol

Just have just realised my moisturiser has a very small amount of topical retinol- I have facials and my skin specialist said a small amount of topical won’t do any harm but I’ve been googling and as always Google recommends avoiding although most of the research into birth defects surrounds oral Vitamin A. What are you ladies who use retinol doing?

I stopped in my first pregnancy and haven’t used it since due to breastfeeding! I miss it so much 😢 I think it’s just a lack of evidence rather than a strong proven risk but I just stayed away just incase!

I absolutely wouldn’t use it.

Don’t use it. I used to love retinol but won’t risk during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

I work for a skincare brand and I would 100% avoid. Vitamin A although not in huge quantities in skincare without a prescription is known to cause issues to the baby. So no matter how much is in a cream I would avoid to make sure it can’t have any impact.

You can switch to using azelaic acid and any topical acids like BHA/AHA. I just azelaic as your skin might be more sensitive. I switched back to using retinol once my baby was born and we weren’t feeding at night as much and not had any issues. Tbh I had about 4 months when I just used a face wipe and some moisturiser I was that tired so it wasn’t an issue anyway 🤣

I was using skin and me and they won’t even sell retinol products when you’re trying. They sent a product with azelaic acid instead and that’s all I use. Don’t even use AHA/BHA things I have at the moment
