Is a bed a necessity?

My husband doesn’t want to buy a bed until we have a good amount of saving (350 for bed and mattress) we are currently sleeping on a blow up bed with our 1 & 2 yr old(we have gone through 3 in the past 4 months) I tell him it’s not safe for the bed to be deflating in the middle in the night with our kids and he says they are fine, am I wrong for wanting a bed. (My 2 yr old has his own bed but he still sleeps with us at night)

Could have paid for a mattress with the money you've spent on blow up beds.

@Katelynn I’ve told him this so many times😭

This would be something I would put on a credit card and pay off over a few months.

If you were making do with the inflatable for a while then it's not ideal but I get it. However, you're spending more money on buying new inflatables! Just get a bed FFS.

Regardless of it deflating or not an air bed isn't safe for young children

A blow up bed isn’t safe for a 1 year old increased SIDs. Fine for adults but definitely make a bed happen even if it’s a mattress on the floor. I feel like you could get a decent mattress for £100 - £150

Umm yes if your kids have a bed why not. Especially if you have any sort of back pain

A mattress on the floor is a good start

When living with my mother in law, we had an air mattress. Our first born has slept on it with us and had his own bed (pack n play). When we got our own place, we still had the air mattress. We eventually got a mattress (thanks to my brother), no bed frame though. We had the air mattress for about a year before we got an actual mattress. We had the mattress on the floor for awhile and I’ve also made a bed out of blankets for our little one to sleep next to us on the floor.

@Emma @Natalie yeah it’s not it says 15 months is “okay” but still a risk :(

Join your local buy nothing group and ask around if anyone has a bed frame. You'd be shocked...if you're willing to gamble you could also ask if anyone has a mattress.

Little ones need something supportive. The double mattress my daughter has on the floor was less than £100

Agree with @Dana 🦅♥️🤍💙 . If you are going to continue to cosleep I would absolutely put a mattress on a credit card if I needed to. I see this as a necessity.

If you two are going to sleep on a blowup I’d at least have a mattress for the kids. If you all are going to sleep together then you need a mattress because you are right it isn’t safe for it to keep deflating with the kids sleeping on it.

Can’t you get a bed on free cycle or fb market place? Then you would just need a mattress.

@Brittany we don’t have credit cards unfortunately

@Karen there are none near me I live in a very small town in the middle of nowhere Texas, I’ve been looking but the closest is a 3hr drive and it wouldn’t even fit in my car🥲

Just to clarify My oldest has a bed but every morning i wake up and he’s in my bed

Hopefully this poll will help him see that it’s not safe for our kids and we need one 🙏

Do you have any local freebie groups? Where I am we have Facebook and WhatsApp groups and people regularly give stuff like beds away. I would prioritise a bed to be honest, but it doesn’t need to break the bank. You can save for a better one over time but in the meantime I’m sure you could find a free or cheap secondhand one!

Or sleep on the floor... Lay down a mat or something. That's way safer than a deflating air mattress.

A lot of mattress stores allow you to apply for credit ☺️

You st least need a mattress and to be honest if you’ve already gone through 3-4 - those things aren’t mega cheap. You’ve probably already wasted $200 on them already. But it’s not a safe sleeping situation nor is it probably giving you all the best sleep

You need to get a proper bed especially if your children sleep with you

You ALL deserve a new bed SOONER THAN Later

Omg why do men not have beds!? When I moved in with my husband he had an air mattress and I was like wtf, we need a bed. 😂

How are you surviving?? I can barely handle a couple days sleeping on one when visiting family, I don’t know how you could accept that being the norm ☠️

Try researching a bed in a box. My daughter has one, and it is so comfortable. It is a regular mattress that is shrink-wrapped and inflates in about 48 hrs.

I definitely think it’s a necessity due to the children’s bed being your bed, too. Try your hardest to get hold of one as soon as possible, but no judgement here

@Ashlyn I’m not tbh i barely get sleep anymore

I really will never understand this mindset. We will go all the way to $0 to get a bed for us and all of our kids. We are broke but God provides. Find something free on Facebook if you literally have no money to spare. It’s normal to not have money saved up these days… we sure as hell don’t. Do not allow this to be the norm in your relationship and demand more from your provider. We live on faith in this household, if it wasn’t real then we would be on the streets.
