Do we have to ring up in advance to book the midwife appointment or can we book it that week?

Anyone else had the last few days in a row of major stretching and tenderness? I’m 18 weeks and the last 3 days the stretching has been really uncomfortable, lower back pain, super tender lower belly. Anyone else experiencing this ?
