Waters breaking - negative test at the hospital

I wondered if this has ever happened to anyone else, I’m pretty convinced my waters broke tonight around 10pm, no contractions. I was sat on the bed, on my own after a shower, no tv on and there was a gush. It went on my white sheets but the liquid had no colour or smell as I thought maybe baby bounced on my bladder? It also sounded like a gush! My partner then came upstairs and whilst we was talking some more leaked out, again onto my bed, no colour no smell. I went up to triage and they did some tests and said the test has come back negative and suggested it may be discharge but surely not? It literally gushed out of me?😂 I did question the midwife and said it was quite a lot of liquid and she did say the tests aren’t 100% accurate but now I’m worried about risk of infection?! I’m back at the hospital for a scan tomorrow to measure the fluid etc but I just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience?

My aunt had the same thing which turned out to be urine🙃😂

I did honestly think maybe it was wee! But surely urine would stain my white bed sheets is my only thought 🤷🏼‍♀️ I feel really silly but something inside me of thinks surely it can’t have been urine… the suddenness and the sound was strange!

Was it a popping noise?! Yeah it definitely sounds odd. Well atleast you have an appointment to double check ! Good luck

Defo sounds like your waters to me at least the scan can show for certain if you lost any I hope all goes well x

If you’re worried about risk of infection just be aware of the signs to look out for, avoid baths & anything in your vagina including midwives fingers xx

Yes🤣 I had a sweep there was then a pool of liquid on the bed which midwife was adamant was my hind waters - tested negative. A few hours later, still at the hospital, I went for a walk and it felt like someone turned a tap on and off with a gush - tested negative. Another midwife also fairly sure it was my waters however two negative tests…. I’m home now and haven’t had anything since (3 days ago now) so I am just monitoring myself but all very odd. Mine was clear and did not smell of urine xxx

Could be discharge, urine or if you put the shower head between your legs to rinse off some waters got up there and leaked out I've had that quite a few times over the years

How did they do the test? I was in hospital on Friday after my waters went (although did have contraction) and they tested negative after no labour progressing.. they tried to send me home but I was adamant they went (3rd baby), went to delivery suite to check with speculum and confirmed they have gone! Just the back ones had! So they almost sent me home when I was already 12 hours in after they first went… my baby was born on Sunday morning so if you’re certain, please make sure they do it properly as I was so scared of infection etc too.. I had to have my front waters broken and IV drip to progress labour as I was running out of time before it was dangerous for me and baby… not nice experience, but I’m glad I stood my ground and stayed otherwise things could have been very different!!

Happend to me aswell, no colour no smell, a lot of water twice its happened ans apparently it’s not my water test was also negative xxx

It happened to me! Turns out it was my waters even though the test said negative i gave birth the next day

I had this the day before my daughter was born, they said it wasn't my waters when I went up on the Saturday morning, they said it was urine and because I was so hydrated that's why it seemed clear. That night I had contractions and went to hospital at midnight at 4cm dilated. I did have to have my waters 'broke' at 2pm the sunday afternoon & there was significantly more water than what I experienced the day before.... So not sure! (Baby was born at 6pm after that). I think my hind waters went the Saturday due to pressure of baby but no one every confirmed this and I do wonder what they woild have done if I hadn't have gone into natural labour... X

The tests are 98.8% accurate. So about 1:100 times it will be wrong. It also depends on it being carried out correctly, using a speculum and being left inside for a full 1 minute for most tests and then exactly 5 minutes before reading the test. Most, although not all, people will continue to leak once the water sac has a hole so if the test was negative AND you’ve not had continuing leaking you can probably feel reassured it’s not your waters. If not give triage a call back

This happened to me. There is such thing as hind waters, if there’s a slight hole in the amniotic sac or baby bag, when the baby moves the amniotic fluid can leak out. If this happens your waters test will come back negative because it’s not the waters in front of the baby that have leaked. So as long as they’re intact that’s fine. Also the amniotic fluid regenerates so if it was the hind waters it’s not usually an issue unless they scan you and too much has gone. Hope this makes sense. Probs best googling hind waters because I’m not a midwife or anything. It’s just happened on 2 of my 3 pregnancies xxx

This happened to me! I was convinced my waters broke after consistently leaking all day but after checking at the hospital it came back negative. The next day it continued and I honestly thought I was going crazy so I decided to go back to the hospital and sure enough they had broken! I also wasn’t having contractions so they had to induce me!
