Gaviscon/heartburn

Bit of a random question. I've been getting bad indigestion/heartburn at night and I've read that you can take gaviscon (NHS website) however it also says not to take anti acidics with sodium bicarbonate... But gaviscon has this ingredient?! So quite contradictory! Not sure whether can take it or not? I also have a Sainsbury's own brand one which not sure I can take either 😬

I took gaviscon my entire pregnancy. It made life better! I felt dying because of the acid. It was prescribed by my doctor. Check sainsburys website to find product details. But its better to speak with your doctor/ pharmacist first.

I took Gaviscon in my first and second pregnancy, no problems whatsoever - it was the only one that worked.

I’ve use gaviscon and I’ve also used boots own brand one (I literally live off the stuff at this point) they usually say on the bottle that it’s safe to use in pregnancy☺️

I used to drink gaviscon out the bottle in the middle of the night during my first pregnancy (he’s now 2!) Until someone told me about Nexium tablets (omeprozole) snd they are a game changer Tablet form….Nexium are expensive but you can get it prescribed from docs (omeprozole) if you ask them I have them and they are so much better than Gavison and Rennies

Am currently taking gaviscon after every meal I was prescribed by the doctor and before bedtime, it helps alot

@Kate nexium contains esomeprazole rather than Omeprazole. Whilst they are similar there is an important difference, esomeprazole is not recommended during pregnancy as it has not been studied enough. There is a lot more information about Omeprazole safety in pregnancy. See NHS guidance here: https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/esomeprazole/pregnancy-breastfeeding-and-fertility-while-taking-esomeprazole/

Gaviscon advance does not contain sodium bicarbonate https://www.gaviscon.co.uk/products/gaviscon-advance-liquid/

My midwife told me that that gaviscon is fine, I find it works better than Rennie

I took rennie its safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding too.
