Little boy grazed his knee and now won’t walk

My boy grazed his knee at nursery today, it’s a bit swollen around the graze but looks nothing major. He came home from nursery early as he wouldn’t stop crying and he hasn’t walked or moved it much since. If he’s sat still he’s fine and chatty but then remembers his leg and cries and gets really upset. If we tickle him he moves his leg but not fast and he has used it on tiptoes briefly but with a lot of screaming! I’m stuck between him just being overly sensitive and maybe there could be more to it? Anyone got any advice? This isn’t a normal reaction for him, he either gets up and on with it or can be a little sensitive needing to tell everyone about it but always walks on it.

We had this, I waited for the next day he walked on it until he remembered about it the. Didn’t again but because he walked on it knew he was fine I’d see how he goes xx

It might burn as he’s flexing his knee, I would put lanolin or aquaphor to keep it moist. We don’t know all the context but definitely listen to your gut if you suspect foul play. I do notice that at this age my daughter will remember something like a mosquito bite and complain about it even after it’s gone. She tells me she needs “pink lotion(calamine)” every time it’s bedtime. I think they may use it to get more attention so I try to be intentional about giving her some extra cozy attention for no reason at all and it seems to help the complaints.

Keep an eye of the redness around the graze. If it increases, draw a circle around the redness with an eye pencil or something easily removable and if it exceeds the line, go to dr immediately as could be cellulitus. We got a few times from a graze and needs antibiotics if it is. Otherwise hopefully it’s just a graze and it’ll be better when he forgets like other comments xx
