I just came out of mine. It’s quick and painless. They inject the anesthetic via a canula, ask you take take deep breath and you’re asleep before you know it. I woke up in the recovery area afterwards - they gave me tea and biscuits and I was out 30min later xx

That's really reassuring thank you! How is the pain afterwards?

The best 40 min of this whole process and best sleep I had in a while!

I was really scared of the sedation as I’d never been put under for anything before. But, I tell ya what, it was actually really nice! I had a lovely little nap, I didn’t feel a thing, and when it was over I wasn’t groggy or anything. I went home and ordered some fried chicken. Bring some snacks to have afterwards as they will make you fast. And be wary of constipation (from the drugs) in the days that follow - try to get ahead of it by staying hydrated and taking regular macrogol sachets.

I would say it is discomfort rather than pain. It’s very manageable so far xx

Sedation didn't put me to sleep so maybe those above are talking about anaesthetic?? Was mine done wrong? 😂 It just made me a bit dopey, it wasn't super comfortable having the retrieval but wasn't too bad, I didn't feel any pain during. I was sore the day after, kind of like really bad period pains, I recommend hot water bottle and pain killers. It wasn't bad for long!

@Rachel Mine was done by an actual anaesthetist as opposed to a nurse, so he explained he would be using three kinds of sedatives instead of two. Perhaps that’s the difference? I believe it was fentanyl, midazolam and propofol. As I understand it, nurse-led sedation doesn’t include propofol.

Sedation also didn't put me to sleep, and it was quite traumatic. I was wide awake throughout. Definitely ask them to clarify how asleep you'll be, and make sure if it's not working to tell someone!

It will be with an anaesthetist. They said like fully asleep.

@Sharon ah that'll be why, mine was with nurses. It was fine but I think I'd rather have been asleep 🤔

@Kerry in that case it will be a lovely sleep!

@Charley hopefully!! 🤞

Recovery was honestly not that bad. The worst part was constipation. I went almost a week. It's something I tell everyone because no one warned me just HOW BAD it'd be. Start stool softeners a few days leading up.

Mine was done it was quick they put you to sleep but you will not feel it when you wake up you will be a little sore so make sure you get bed rest for at least 2 days and if you can take off of work that will help too but you will be fully asleep and they will tell you how many eggs were retrieved
