Help!

My little girl is turning 3 next month and hopefully starting nursery in January but she needs to be potty trained to be able to go. They will deal with accidents but no nappy changes. I’ve tried potty training a couple of months ago but she genuinely seemed petrified of the potty and toilet so I left it and thought I’d try again. Also her verbal communication is limited and although it has improved over the couple of months it’s still not great. I’ve started again and she no longer seems scared of the potty and toilet but even though I regularly ask if she needs a wee and she normally says no but then will have an accident. Please any advise or tips on what to do will be appreciated.

Instead of asking, take her to the potty. The oh crap potty training book was very helpful. Basically, If you can, spend a few days home and have her naked from the waist down. Then after you both get the hang of it, try skirts or loose pants only, no underwear. and start with short outings.

@Leah Simon why no underwear? At what point would be appropriate to introduce wearing pants?x

@Leah Simon thanks for the advise. I’ll have a look at that book. I initially tried her being naked but she really doesn’t like it, I’ve kept her to bare minimum of knickers and a vest when at home which she is okay with.

The underwear feels too much like a diaper when they start out. Once they get the hang of it, you can add them in. Also, getting whatever is on them off in time can be tricky, so you want to reduce the difficulty. If she doesn't like naked, try something very loose. Boys boxer shorts might be a good option.
