Her daytime naps were very consistent with wake windows of between an hour and 15 minutes and an hour and a half with her last wake window being about 2 hours. Now she fights her naps so the wake window has been longer the last few days. When she screams I try to settle her in the bassinet first but she ends up crying so much she stops breathing and loses her voice until I pick her up. It’s very unusual because she usually prefers her own space to sleep
@NicolaNap times have been the same issue today. Crying and screaming as soon as she is put down in her bassinet. She is also resisting contact naps and wake windows have been closer to two and a half hours.
Hmm at 14 weeks I would also be starting with a wake window of around 1.5 hours, maybe up to 1.75, and once improvements are being made and baby is doing well, possibly up to 2 hours before bed. So you aren’t too far away apart from like you say they are longer now as she isn’t accepting her naps. I would try and focus on nights for a solid few days, making sure the focus is she falls asleep laying down in her bassinet, not in your arms. At this age usually you have to move away from any drowsiness and place down AWAKE after a mini routine. Slightly longer routine at bedtime. I would offer a feed, then a bath, PJs, cuddle and place down for example. Make sure she stays awake on the feed and she goes down before she gets sleepy. Then from there, offer the comfort you wish to offer, knowing that if picking her up and placing her back down keeps causing more issues then I wouldn’t pick up as often and calmly offer some voice and touch when she is in her bassinet. Some space can help too
Once you have a few nights like that, knowing she is falling asleep laying in her bassinet, start to incorporate the first few naps of the day and go from there. I think the 4 month regression may be interrupting things which is usually when being a little firmer with sleep independence / sleep training can help :) No more swaddle now either, just incase. And yes I would try working on bringing bedtime to around 12 hours after you get her up in the am. Roughly speaking. So keep an eye on the last nap or 2, and you may need to wake her to make sure bedtime isn’t too late.
Thank you so much for this advise I will try it and hopefully it makes a difference! I really appreciate it
What wake windows are you following? Roughly how much day time sleep is she getting? What do you end up doing when she is screaming?
