18 months and not talking much

Hi everyone, Just curious on how everyone’s babies are doing now that we’re almost at that 18 month mark if not there already with talking. My daughter doesn’t say much other than Dadda, can sign more and has recently started to talk in her own language (jimerish). I’m just wondering, any of you mums out there going through something similar? I know every child is different and we have her 18 month checkup next week but just curious what some of you may be doing to help your toddlers talk etc. apart of me feels like I’m failing 😖

Totally normal. My oldest only said mama and dada at 18months, by the time he was two he was full on talking. My second who is now 18 months only says about 5 words. You aren't doing anything wrong.

Thank you for your quick reply Jessica - I appreciate it

My son is the same age and is the exact same way! He will say about 5-6 words and sign some others but other then that it’s all gibberish LOL You are not failing! All kids are different and do things at their own pace!

Hey girl, you are not failing! Every kid is so different and sometimes it's the quiet ones who surprise us a couple years later. They are still so young at this age. Talking and watching TV (ms Rachel, ms moni, wiggles) has helped immensely. I think because of all the repetition. It's going to be ok mama 💕

I think this sounds pretty normal! We have a chatty one ourselves but it's all different and nothing you said is alarming.

At that age a word also doesn’t have be ‘clear’ for it to count. My son gets check ins with an SLP because of some Underlying health conditions. Her advice has always been to (verbally) label as much as possible! Objects she’s holding, her actions, foods she’s eating, etc.

My 18 month old says nothing but up and signs more. Then lots of repetition in sounds. He got a mild delay diagnosis. He's is also showing signs of autism but no diagnosis yet.
