Potty training think my son is getting close to being ready but we have a baby due in December is it worth doing potty training now?

My son has been at pre school for 2 weeks now and he’s been saying more and more that his nappy needs changing when he’s done a big wee or poo. We’ve had a potty for ages now and he’s never shown interest in fact he’s been afraid to sit on it. But just now he said “need wee wee, potty mummy” so I got the potty took his nappy off and he happily sat on it. Nothing happened I wasn’t inspecting it too to be honest we kept him naked and he ended up having an accident on the floor he immediately said oh no and ran to the potty. I praised him told him he was a clever boy for knowing to go to the potty and accidents don’t matter. In some ways I want to continue with his cues but I’m also scared that the baby arriving in a few months will cause him to regress. my plan was to not bother with potty training at all until we’re all settled as a family of 4 and start in spring if he shows signs of readiness.

I’m similar to you. Toddler is 2 and recently started getting into swing of telling us she wants to go toilet (off her own accord). I’m just taking her lead - not pushing it as I’m heavily pregnant too but also not discouraging at all. Just go with it if they regress later then so be it. You can tackle it again later if needs be She’s not nappy free if that’s helpful to know. I keep her in nappies but she likes going to toilet. We’re using less nappies because she does all her number 2s on toilet. Wees are still hit and miss but again I’m not too worried at this stage as I’m not potty training in full force if that makes sense

@Gaby ahh cool this is exactly what I’m thinking of doing, I’m glad I’m not the only one! All the best with the rest of your pregnancy ☺️ x

@Mia ohh my son loves the Alexa always asking it to play music so I might try this I think he’ll love it!

He sounds ready :) we’ve just done it with our little girl over summer as I’m due no.2 in 2 weeks 😅 I’ve heard she’ll probably regress slightly but I think I’d rather only 1 in nappies personally… just feel it’s slightly easier for some reason aha! One thing lots of people said to us was if you’re going to do it, commit to it & don’t do it half heartedly cause it won’t stick. We’ve gone for it & I’m glad we did xx

As Katie said, he 100% sounds ready. Honestly you're not due for a few months yet, just do it. Commit and don't look back, my advice would be to stay in for the first 3 days then gradually go out with a carry potty locally. He will have accidents for a week possibly two until he get's use to bladder control but after that it wil be plain sailing. Have a look at the eric potty training website for tips it's great. You've got this mamma ! xx

I'm due at NY and am planning to attempt potty training in Oct I think x
