I had GD and an induction that ended in a csection, if I could go back, I'd totally have elected for a section. Only you know what's right for you! Good luck mamma xx
I was induced in my last pregnancy, I did have GD but was induced due to baby being small. It ended in emergency section so have opted for elective section this time, wouldn’t like to go through induction again but it’s all personal choice!
I have GD and am on insulin overnight for my fasting numbers, but my post meal sugars are diet controlled. The NICE guidelines indicate that if sugars are well controlled and there are no other fetal complications (e.g. very large size) then induction should be offered at 40+6, *even if* on medication. My baby is currently measuring 55th percentile at the 32 week scan, so if growth continues along this track and there are no other medical issues (like reduced movements, or placental deterioration) I won't be thinking about induction until that 40 + 6 mark. As my sugars are under control, the consultant didn't even mention induction at my 32 week appointment. It seems all the hospitals are different with this, but if they start saying things like "because you're on insulin we induce at xx weeks" it's definitely worth discussing the NICE guidelines. Ultimately baby's safety is the most important thing, so if there is medical indication to induction that's a whole different matter to discuss with the team.
Sorry can’t answer your question, but I had an induction at 39 with my first & had her natural , I think it’s something to do with the length of labour after induction which they can only let you go so long x
Sorry just realised my comment didn't even help with your question, I'm sorry!! I just see a lot of doctors automatically saying that insulin = induction, but it definitely doesn't always have to be that way. Wishing you all the best with your decision and hope it all goes smoothly for you
I am 31 week with GD & have not been told anything about induction or so. When do they mention about it and can we choose C section now a days?
Elective c-section 💙🍼
hey lovely, so i’m 33 weeks with GD - on metformin & insulin. at 32 weeks baby boy was estimated to be 6lb already - so have been medically advised a c-section. although i really wanted a vaginal, im very torn about what to do as my firstborn was induction (also GD) ending in csection so kind of leaning towards elective this time. it’s so stressful to decide but talk through all your anxieties and decisions with your consultant/midwife/diabetic team - they’re there to help! x
For me I am hoping for a vaginal birth as I don't have complications and the risks to the mother are much lower than with a c section. Another factor for me is that it's better for the baby's immune system. However if I had complications I would definitely consider an elective c section if it could avoid an emergency one, as it's safer (all the right staff would be there and the baby's position would be better) and probably a better experience too.
Nothing was mentioned about induction to me at 32 weeks but worth asking when you see them given you are on insulin. I'm on metfirmin but I have been on that since before pregnancy.
Thank you ladies!!! Had a growth scan this morning, baby boy is estimated to be about 5lbs!! Nothing mentioned of birth plans, but a brief chat with the midwife about induction between 39 and 40 weeks due to GD and then back again in 3 weeks for another growth scan🩵
@Fliss our little was estimated at about the same at 32 week scan.
I’m in the same boat as you, 33w tomorrow, I have a scan next Monday at 34w. I’m really swaying towards elective c-section, due to the simple fact of, I have had a really difficult (almost traumatic) pregnancy and it’s had its “faffs”, in my own opinion, induction is forcing your body to do something it might not be ready for… which seems like a faff and I just want to meet my little girl, not have to potentially wait days to meet her and potentially end up with an emergency c-section anyway! But of course, it’s completely up to you, I just find it amazing that you do not need a medical reason to have a c-section now. Good luck Mama🩷🩵 Fellow GD preggo mama too xx
