I have an apron belly. My OB used the wound VAC on my incision. I kept it on for seven days and went and had it taken off. The seal had started to fail due to sweat and just every day movement. My incision was almost nonexistent! Ask and see if they offer those! I just kept it dry for around 2 weeks with rolled gauze.
You’ll be fine! My scar healed really well and I have a high bmi. After your shower use a hair dryer to make sure it’s completely dry. Then you can also stick a period pad to the inside front of your underwear to absorb any sweat near the wound during the day. If you ever feel sweating make sure you dry it off.
My doctor said my scar was the fastest and nicest healed scar he had ever seen. I didn’t get any stitches i was pretty much glued together. I made sure to wash with non scented antibacterial soap and dry my wound with a fresh clean towel each time (no towel reusing).
My belly over hangs alot I was so worried about it after having to get and emergency c section but honestly it was fine teeny tinny lil bit opened up on the side I was constantly getting out of bed but healed great after, I just made sure to keep it clean and dry as much as I can honestly I walked around with my nighty under my belly hang so when I did sweat it wasn't stying wet and when I showered I held my belly up while he dabbed the area dry for me as I couldn't do both as was worried the towel wolluld get stuck on my stitches and obvs I couldn't see so it was very helpful, mine has healed amazingly an other then that tinny bit never had any problems with it at all xx
I had a c section with my first and did unfortunately get an infection! I learnt some good tips though. 1. After cleaning lie down and dry the area with a hairdryer (on a cool gentle setting) you want to keep the area as dry as possible 2. Use a large sanitary pad. Fold it and keep in under your belly fold to collect an moisture Hope that helps
Thanks all ladies! @Sharon @Emily can you go home with the PICO/VAC or do you stay in hospital until they remove it from you?
Yes! You can go home!
Pico dressing definitely saved me, as soon as it came off I sustained a bad infection so they definitely do work x

Ask them for a PICO dressing. It will speed up your recovery and make life a little easier in the early days.
