Please help

My autistic toddler is addicted to screen time, I’ve used it as a crunch for so long I work from home and he’s home with me or I’m running him between therapies and 1/2 pre-k program. I really have been trying to decrease it because he’s gotten to the point of tantrums if he cannot have access to screens and I can’t take the screaming anymore. I know it’s my fault but please any advice, activities, alternatives or even apps that might be beneficial and just not YouTube - Ms Rachel, super simple and Elmo’s world.

I would recommend the same- completely take it away. I did this with my 6 year old and he doesn’t even ask for it anymore. He will be upset at first but after a week you’ll notice improvements with behavior. I bought a ton of art supplies and now my son is really into painting.

Busy books! If he's in OT, it'll work on his fine motor skills.

My daughter is also autistic and struggles with screen time as well. What I found that works for her is switching it out towards the middle of her day and a little bit before bed. We got some preschool activity books that have tracing and velcro matching. We also go out on walks since we live in an apartment and have two dogs. If she started having tantrums, we give her two minutes or three minutes on a timer and let her know how much time she has left before transitioning out to a different activity. Lots of coloring, painting, water play, and playdoh. It takes time to wean off, but keeping them busy with play, they won't even think of the screen. I hope this helps
