I’m in labour

So I’m in labour, started having contractions at about midnight, first off they were every half an hour or so up until about 9am this morning then they became more regular and since about 10:30 it’s been every 5/10 minutes. Sometimes they’re every 5 then they slow down a bit and they become every 10 minutes but so so painful it takes my breath away and I can’t speak or move. Also been having bloody mucus since this morning. Called triage and they asked me to come in, been here for over an hour and they’re sending me home because I’m only 2cm dilated and they’re telling me my contractions are nowhere near where they need to be. The midwife seems very moody with me making me feel a bit guilty for being here (I didn’t wanna come in in the first place as I was feeling comfortable at home) and she’s being quite rude and sarcastic so I’m not having a nice experience whilst I’m also getting really bad contractions. To think I’m only 2cm and they’re only going to get worse is making me miserable because I don’t know how much longer I can cope with the pain and they told me this could go on for days 😢 has anyone else had a similar experience, or has anything positive to say to try and put my mind at ease please? 😢 this is absolutely awful, I was terrified of labour to begin with but to think this could drag on for days and I’ll be in much more pain is making me cry constantly

Awh girl! This is not your fault they asked you to come in not the other way round! The midwife must be having a shit day and is expressing that into you! Get yourself home and labor at home where you feel comfortable I hope it all goes ok and when your back the midwife is gone home so that someone else can take over! Don’t let them ruin your experience and just think little baby will be with you soon ♥️♥️

Hey beaut, I’ve had my bubs now but I wanted to give you my experience - my waters went and I began having contractions at 10:30pm by 4am they were coming every 3-4 minutes - I went to the hospital and they told me I wasn’t even dilated 😩 they sent me home and I had a warm bath that slowed down the contractions ease the pain and I finally managed to get some sleep - I had to go back 24 hours later due to my waters going and ended up having to be induced. If the pains too bad, please do go back. They can give you paracetamol and dihydrocodeine to ease the pain and once I was induced gas and air was a saver to work through the contractions xxx

Easier said than done but try not to think about how long it might last and just work your way through each contraction as they come knowing that with each one its bringing you closer to meeting your baby. Try stay as relaxed as possible so have yourself a warm bath and put on some relaxing or feelgood music and light some candles. The more relaxed you are the better. If the pain starts getting too much I would ring back and ask if you can come in and stay in as you can't cope with the pain and need some medication. You've got this, your baby will be here before you know it!

I hope you’re doing ok! I’m sorry the midwife was a bitch. Hopefully by the time you’re ready to go back, her shift is over! Try a warm, not hot towel over your tummy (you can wet w towel then put in microwave), warm shower, or bath. Is there someone with you? Every minute you are closer to meeting your baby. Like others have said, if the pain is too strong call them again and say you need pain relief. Theres many reasons early labor can be super painful, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with you and they midwife should be ashamed for making you feel bad.

My girl is now 7 months old but I started having contractions/tightenings about 4pm on the Sunday. By Monday evening they were getting more painful but I lasted through the night until midday on Tuesday when I went to hospital to be induced as was then 12 days overdue. They monitored me and said yep you’re having strong contractions and that I was 2cm. I definitely found that her doing the check ramped things up so hopefully that helps you. They sent me home as I didn’t need to be induced but would need my waters to be broken but would be waiting approx 24 hours for a bed on labour ward, sent me home at 5pm. I was back by 8pm and gave birth at 11:35pm. Hopefully that does ramp things up for you xx

@Aimee hey I have had a similar situation happen tonight, it’s my due date and having regular contractions since 6pm didn’t call until I was 3-4 mins apart and was there from 8-11pm with intense contractions and my waters broke, but wasn’t dilating 😣 but they’ve booked me for an induction tomorrow evening xx

@Romany good luck beautiful girl, you’ll be seeing your baby very soon! Induction was scary after reading a lot of stories online but it wasn’t half as bad. Hopefully you dilate over night and begin dilating quicker with the induction they just worry once the waters go for obvious reasons - feel free to message me xx
