My 12 month old doesn’t say it intentionally either. He repeats “dada” and “caca” but only MOUTHS mama, nothing comes out of his vocal chords 🤣 my doc didn’t even mention speech therapy, but honestly that’s not a bad thing and doesn’t mean there is anything *wrong* with your kiddo if they need ST!
My 12 months old say mamamamamama. No straight "mama" coming yet. Not a big deal to me unless you see other delays in his development.
My LO pronounces mama and dada but I don't think he knows what they mean yet. He is 12 months now. Although he knows that cow says Moo and repeats that and he says something like Ay (Hi) when he waves his hand in a greeting. Our pediatrician also mentioned to us that we might need to take him to a speech therapist. But only if he does not learn 5 words by 18 months.
Speech therapy option doesn’t hurt, I didn’t hear about them until my baby was over 2 yrs. He was saying a lot of words but I guess not enough. Early intervention they can come to your house twice a week or at daycare. They pretty much use learning devices/toys and with repetitive phrases to get your baby saying certain things. Aside from that you learn as a mama that repetition is what encourages speech like you saying “thank you” when you give your baby an item. So yea if your worried get your doctors referral and contact them, it’s free and that automatically ensures baby gets Medicaid insurance.
