Sick Leave

How does it work? I have never had to do it before. I can't think straight. I'm stressed out and don't want to go back to work. Can you go off sick with stress?

Yes you can go off sick because of stress as it’s in regards to your mental health!! Definitely phone your GP asap and speak with your doctor, my work is very physically demanding and was effecting my mental health really badly which was causing a strain on my pregnancy and I was feeling sick everyday it was too much! I expressed this to my doctor and she gave me a sick note for the month!

@Amy is it classed as 5 working days? I only do 3? can the weekend count? Do I just say I can't come in because of stress!

@Shar Tayla I will contact my Doctor soon

Working days, not inclusive of weekends. GP can sign you off for up to a month, and then you need you see them again. Sick pay is SSP, unless you have work sick pay (depending on company). Take a break lovely. I hope you feel better soon x

If you work weekends that counts as your working days, however I would assume the full period of a month would still be given if they decide you need that long, sometimes they do a week or 2 weeks which for you may be 2-4 shifts to start with :)

You can take a max of 28weeks ssp if it's pregnancy related illness and then work have to start your mat leave early. Also be aware that if u are on ssp in weeks 18-25 of pregnancy then you won't hit the qualifying wage amount of £125pw I think it is to get mat pay and you might have to claim maternity allowance instead which is slightly less than mat pay and with less favourable conditions for returning to work
