Collecting colostrum
Anyone have any tips on collecting colostrum and any links to kits to buy for this, e.g syringes etc? Midwife was meant to go through it with me yesterday but we forgot and I don’t see her again now until 5 days before I’m due 🥲 Also is it ONLY the yellow/golden coloured liquid? When I squeeze my nipples I get a clear liquid leaking out as well so I’m not sure how I would not collect this but still collect the colostrum?
Any 1ml syringes with a cap off Amazon are fine! You can get a box of 20 or so for quite cheap. You can either express and just catch the drops with the syringe straight from your nipple or collect it in a sterile cup. Helps to massage your breast for a few minutes before hand and use a warm compress or have a warm bath or shower. The clear liquid is your colostrum too, it can be a range of colours you might find it to be a different colour when you express in a morning compared to evening! X
