Elective induction - big baby

I'm a 34-year-old first-time mom, and so far my pregnancy has been complication-free. My blood pressure is normal, and I don't have gestational diabetes. The only concern is that my baby is measuring on the larger side, estimated to be around 8.12 lbs by week 39. I understand that this is just an estimate and she could weigh less. I don't have a strong preference for natural childbirth; I simply want what's best for my baby and myself, and I am definitely in favor of having an epidural. My doctor has mentioned the possibility of induction after 39 weeks or a few days after 40 weeks, and I'm considering it. I'm aware that the longer the baby stays inside, the larger she may grow. I'm feeling overwhelmed today, considering all of this. Throughout my pregnancy, I've been exercising regularly and doing pelvic floor exercises, and I have faith that my body will allow for a vaginal birth without complications. I would appreciate hearing positive induction stories, if possible. Thank you.

Start up your activities to help your body naturally into labor, eating dates and drinking raspberry leaf tea, curb walking, spicy food, heel massage. Try to relax about it and encourage oxytocin through cuddles or intimacy. I think post 39 week inductions can often go well. You’ve got this!

Positive story here! I induced with first because we hit 40 weeks and she still hadn’t come. She was a little over pounds which was not easy to push out. Can’t imagine if I let her go longer. This second baby is already measuring to be that big, so I’m doing a 39 week induction to hopefully make it a little easier on the pushing and get her out before she’s too big. Other than the giant baby part, I really liked inducing. I’m a planner and knowing when I need to go in makes things a lot less stressful. Also I know the doctors always say “oh the measurements could be off by a certain amount” but in my case the first time it was UNDER-measuring 😅 I think the last sonogram predicted 7.5 lbs.

Thanks @Beth! This makes a lot of sense! And it is very encouraging! I think I will set up an induction for 39+5. She will be beyond cooked by then! Hopefully she gets here sooner by herself lol! The ultrasound measurements suggested a 10/11 due date even though she is due on 10/25 by LMP
