Travelling abroad

Any tips/advice on travelling abroad with 2 under 2? My first one will be 23 months and my second 10months when we travel and I'm scared just thinking about it. This is our first family holiday and it sounded amazing when we first booked it and now it's two weeks away and I'm shitting myself.

Take lots of little snacks for them, activity book/stickers, favourite toy. Are you all sharing one room when you go away? My husband and I just took our 23 month old and 8 month old away last weekend for the first time and it was okay! It really helped that they went to sleep fairly quickly at night. Our youngest has 3 naps a day, but will sleep on the go, even though it's usually a bit shorter. They have their lunchtime naps at the same time 😅👌🏼

@Marie thank you Marie. Were you breastfeeding your young one or on formula and what did you do with your young one's solids? Did you take any from here? I'm going to Turkey so I'm nervous.

I'm breastfeeding our youngest. I breastfed her on take off and landing. I found it helped with their ears. We flew back in June with both of them. They slept for some of it, but were happy with the bits we brought with us. I brought an activity folder for our older child. With solids, I made a few different types of mini pancakes and popped them in the freezer until we were ready to go so that they would last the whole journey. That and a few pouches just in case. You'll do great! Even if they have meltdowns, which my eldest has had before on a couple of flights, people I found got it and I just took him for a walk up and down the airplane. To try and distract him as the seats are such a closed space. Is your partner flying with you?

Don’t worry too much because things could be better than you think. We’ve flown a few times already and they were both very well behaved. The trick is to get flights around their nap time/bed time so they end up sleeping throughout the whole flight/most of the flight. But I would take lots of snacks, colouring books, some toys I know they’ll enjoy but won’t disturb others.

@Nattinan 100% best idea for timing of flights around babies schedule if possible! Weve traveled via plane twice per year with our two (now 2.5 and 1.5) and so that’s been almost 12 flights with them now and I def always try to pick something where we get to the airport and go thru security right before dinner time. Eat at gate. Board plane play a bit and then BEDTIME during flight. Babies sleep. Hubby and I get to watch a movie together and sleep too! Or same idea but during naptime. People always act like “omg they were so good!” Even a. couple of the more recent ones where I felt my elder was a little naughty and loud. I’m not a tablet mom at all—they literally never use one except during long travel, but it can be helpful to keep them occupied when stuck in a small space like that. Or even just your phone for a bit. So in case there’s no wifi, try to download a couple baby videos just in case !
