Hiya lovely, I had one a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was to discuss pain relief, but it was to discuss an epidural because of my BMI. They assessed my airway and looked at my back and asked loads of questions. Was just ‘incase of an emergency’ and I needed an epidural quickly in labour… but the main point of the appointment was to get me to agree to an epidural the second I walked through the hospital doors when I’m in labour!! Don’t let them force you into anything! That’s if the appointment is for the same reason😂 Good luck!! Hope it goes okay! Xx
My appointment was due to mild scoliosis and hypermobility. They felt my spine, checked my jaw and looked at wrists on my hand. The discussed all the pros and cons of epidural, and agreed that my scoliosis is not severe enough to warrant concern, so they don't have any worried if i need/want epidural or spinal blocks. I was glad to have the apt though, as its now noted in my file that I may need more anesthetic due to my hypermobility.
I had mine last week and actually thought it was pretty useful. Depends on your medical history but really it’s there just to prep and produce a plan for when you go in. The lady that did mine had read my notes thoroughly, explained her reasoning for a recommendation and explained that she would produce a letter which goes on my file to cover what has been discussed. I was recommended an epidural and took it, but to be fair it had good reason, I didn’t feel pushed. I would say go with a. Opens mind and don’t be afraid to ask questions. My lady could give me good responses to everything I asked or was concerned about. 👍
They’re all for random/personalised stuff really but one thing I noticed is that anaesthetists are really knowledgeable about loads of things! I got loads of info from my appointment it was brilliant x
I had mine today and actually it was one of my favourite appointments to date. I’m high risk due to a cardiac problem, so they ran through my medical history and then shared information with me about different methods of pain relief. The consultant was very open minded and let me lead with my birthing preferences and stated he was there to find a path to making that a reality for me. He didn’t push anything on me and also made it very clear to me that I have the right to change my decisions at any point before or during my labour. I wasn’t sure what to expect going in either, but I hope your experience is as positive as mine was.
I’m sure it’s to talk about epidurals, I could be wrong?? X
