He does not speak

Is there any mom here whose child has not yet started to speak? Mine is only said "mama" . He doesn't imitate sounds, e.g. like a cat - meow. Everyone tells me to wait until the check up for a two-year-old.

My niece doesn’t talk, shes 17 months old. She only says “dada” but only when it suits her. They said they’ll revisit at 2 years but they see early signs of autism (she also hates people being near her or touching her).

My son is only just starting to talk. He says cat, dog, choc, Dave (the bird) but they’re not really understandable unless you know what he’s trying to say.

@Angel The most important thing is to know as early as possible. They can then learn how to help their child. I don't see any signs of autism, but I'm still very worried

@Karolina some kids are just behind on their speech, have u tried ms Rachel? My niece says a word then forgets 2 days later

@Ruth Compared to us, this is a lot .... There are no new words in my son, only "mama". Even sounds that can be used instead of words. He is 22 months old and has not made any progress since he was 17 months old (then he started to say "mama"

@Angel We haven't tried, but we speak Polish at home. English is my second language. HV says it's because of our bilingualism, but he doesn't even "play" with sounds. I made a private appointment with a neurospeech therapist. I'd rather check if we have any problem or if we have to wait

Children’s speech and language therapist here. You’d be able to approach your HV to get seen sooner to refer you to a SALT Bilingualism doesn’t cause any delays. I’ve seen you’re seeking a private referral and I think that’s a good next step, I hope it all goes well for you.
