is this normal behaviour?

My son keeps doing this when sat in high chair, he looks as if something is dragging his head back and to the side and sometimes it happens really fast and freaks me out! He keeps putting his ear to shoulder aswell which I though might be teeth but I don’t know wether it’s connected and a bigger issue? I have an appointment for Monday but wondered if anyone has the same or knows what’s happening? Thank you :)

Looks like he is trying to look at the TV and what's going on behind him? Daughter does this when in the bouncer and TV is behind her. :)

@Amy sorry I should of added he does it regardless where he’s placed, he’s just done it in his bouncer and there’s a wall behind him so nothing to look at there x

Is it only when he’s at height?? Presuming he’s only when In the high chair of late cause of age / solids etc - is this a new pattern? Does he do this if he’s sat on someone? I’m an OT so just having a think.

@Hayley the arm out/dragging to side motion is just in the high chair but on laps he looks up which makes his head go back and arches back and tries to do a back bend type thing. He’s also often putting his ear on his shoulder without the pulling to the side and pulls his ears constantly

@Hayley all of these actions he does have started around the same time as weaning yes, but can happen at random throughout day

Thank you for sharing. I can’t be of much help here, I’m sorry. Was trying to have a think if it was only at height. I hope all goes well at your appointment 🫶🏽

My guess would be that he's looking for a breast if he's not bottle-fed - my daughter does a similar move with her head when she's hungry.

@Milja he is bottle fee but than you anyway

I am by no means a professional but I think it looks like sensory seeking behaviour. He might just be doing it because it’s fun/feels nice.

@Steph I hope it’s something like that, he seems unbothered by it and not in any pain or discomfort… x

Been thinking of you - hope all went ok 🧡

@Hayley that’s very sweet of you, thank you for checking in! I saw one Dr on Monday and got a second opinion on Tuesday just to be sure as I was thinking possible seizures but both of them are certain it’s not and both said possibly related to teething or a blockage in one/both ear to throat tubes (not a ear infection) or it’s simply just a new movement he’s learnt and enjoys. I’m glad but I’m still keeping an eye on him as I feel without a scan/propper tests how can they be 100% sure but for now I’m happy and just seeing how he goes (touch wood hasn’t done it in a few days) x

Ahhh. Thank you for your reply 🥰 I’ve been thinking of you both. Hope everything goes well for you 😘
