Screen time guilt

My so first daughter is 17 months and we’ve managed this whole time with no screen time (phones/ iPads/ TV)… she goes to a Montessori nursery who don’t advocate screens and I have my husband at home too so it’s much easier to do this! Now my second daughter is here I feel like I could really do with some extra time with the little one/ to get on with stuff so was considering a little screen time but feel so guilty about this. Anyone else? I’ve been told good things about Ms Rachel. Can anyone else suggest any other non-overly stimulating programmes that are more educational and doesn’t turn them into cookey zombies?

Don’t feel bad - sometimes you just need a bit of time to do what you need and a little screen time won’t hurt, especially with 2 little ones you need to find something that works for you. My little one likes Something Special (Mr Tumble) and Twirlywoos both on iPlayer/cbeebies. They’re both gentle, inclusive and educational.

I believe miss Rachel is very over stimulating. You get die hard fans that say “oh but my so and so learned soo much from miss Rachel” however it really is over stimulating. The fast screen changes, the CONSTANT noise, the bright colours. There’s a list of very low stim shows all over the internet, I’d suggest going with those. Bluey is a good start. Just a word of warning. Our screen time crept up and up. Started with 1 episodes then 3, then multiple time a day. Then tantrums when we said no. I regret it so much and I only ever showed very very boring shows which are super slow. I cut back to 20 mins 1 times a day and the change is phenomenal, I actually am in shock. He’s a different toddler.. so please use with caution x

I find Miss Apple is a great alternative to Ms Rachel as she is the English version basically. Still teaches sign language but BSL and I feel like moves at a bit of a slower pace than Ms Rachel. My daughter did learn a lot from her shows and loves to interact but it is still quite stimulating. Miss Apple or Mr Tumble are our go-tos x

Thanks so much ladies xxxx
