Induction vs C section

For those of you that have had your babies would you be induced again or go straight to a c section?

I've been wondering this also, If I go to 42 weeks I really don't want another induction as I know I could be in for days and the last one ended up with forceps delivery and episiotomy 3rd degree tear so a rough recovery anyways. If I choose c section I know I will be in and out but then it's the long recovery. Hoping I go naturally before then but it is playing on my mind 😫

This is my thoughts, todays my due date and no signs yet. I’ve got to see a consultant Tuesday because of baby being big. I have a 2 year old at home I can’t risk being in hospital a long time but dread c section recovery. Xx

So I had this issue last week, my waters broke so they wanted to induce me if no active labour after 24 hours. I really didn't want it. I went back to hospital after 24 hours and then had a painful wait on the ward for another 7 hours contracting but not enough. I was then offered the drip or another c section. I opted for the latter as I couldn't go through another 'up to 20 hours', it has already been over 30 hours from waters., I ended up waiting for the section which wasn't urgent initially but then I started bleeding so was taken down as an emergency, it's rest hard to say as I wanted to get back to my son and didn't want another x hours in labour so opted for a section. It's made me sad I couldn't deliver how I wanted so still can't play with my son but I think I would have had the same outcome with the bleeding

I went in and asked for the drip induction as I didn't want to be in hospital for days, I also have a toddler. It all depends on if they are able to pop your waters, if they can, you can have that done and then the drip. Both my babies were induced with the drip, both labours were less than 9 hours long and recovery wasn't awful! Just go in with what you want and good luck xx

Im in the same boat. 5 days overdue now but baby jumped from 90th to 97th percentile at 40 weeks so I’ve been advised to not wait until 42 weeks. I think I’ve finally decided to go for a c section on Tuesday just so there’s less trauma for the baby and we will get to go home sooner without having to stay in as I’ve got a toddler at home. The consultant was adamant that induction would go better this time but I’ve heard that induction is more likely to lead to complications than a big baby

i had an induction with my first and genuinely had such a wonderful experience, i'd definitely do it again if i needed to xx

I had an induction for both of mine, both ending with forceps. Would still choose over c section due to recovery time personally. Will say induction went much much faster with second.

It would depend on the situation. I was induced by gel at 41+4, my LG arrived early hours of 42weeks and I'd not slept properly since 41+3, so was absolutely knackered when in labour, had an episiotomy as baby was having decels and had pooed so needed out ASAP. I really struggled mentally after as I was trying to breastfeed on minimal sleep, then swapped to pumping on day 5, then to formula on day 7 due to poor latch, low supply and poor exhaustion.. I've already said to my husband if/when we have more, if I go over and don't go into labour naturally, I'd opt for a c-section as i couldn't go through the induction process again if it was that long as it really messed with me and took that first week from me

@Sophie exactly the same for me, my induction was so awfully painful I wouldn't do it again. I think id go straight for section too

@Georgie as awful as it sounds, I'm glad to hear someone else felt the same, all I hear is how amazing people found it! My friend was induced with her first and baby arrived 8 hours later which was nice to here until I'd been induced 48 hours before and still no baby! I was taking paracetamol, dihydrocodeine and oramorph from 2cm-5cm (took over 12 hours to progress) and ended up hysterical begging for an examination as I thought I was being dramatic and found I was 5cm with waters still intact and baby's head so low I couldn't sit to pee or eat without pain. If we have any more, I'm probably going to say that past 40 weeks, I'd want a section as I can't mentally deal with that again and I know that me being tired and not having the energy to push once I finally progressed probably played a role in my LG pooing and having decels, and don't want to risk that again.

@Sophie you could be talking about my experience but 24 rather than 48 hours....how you did that for two days Is actually beyond me tbh..and the fact they give us paracetamol?!?! Like it's going to do anything. And then I hear some women get induced and have an epidural straight away.... Not fair that different hospitals do it so differently. I went from 0-4cm in about 18 excruciating hours of being on the pessary and couldn't face waiting till 24h to be checked so they checked and saw I was 5cm so could send me to labour ward where I could actually get an epidural and not feel like I was in some medival torture experience... Had lots of mecomium so in the end foreceps in theatre with episiotomy. Such a rough time I just couldn't risk going down that road again

@Georgie nor do I! They were examining me in the early hours and the evening. I know they were busy as the induction midwife had 8 women so I felt like I didn't want to bother her! I've heard that as well.. I got moved to delivery suite and was given gas and air which was great for the pain until I needed to push and felt completely out of it and had to stop using it, and was begging the midwife to get her out. I was checked and was 9cm and had to have my waters broken and she arrived 1 hour later x

Thanks everyone I think dependent on what he says Tuesday I will try wait it out til 42 weeks then if need be have a c section. Xx

I have had 2 positive inductions. 1 pessary + drip, 1 balloon. My first induction was long but smooth enough for me to choose to have another.

I'd go induction if I didn't have a big baby on the way again (I was induced for this reason) however, if there was a high risk I'd most probs go section. (I was offered section as my first delivery was pretty traumatic 😬)

If there was any reason for the induction, other than being overdue I would go for the c-section. Last time I had static growth so they suggested induction which ended in an emergency c-section. I think the baby was already struggling in there and the induction just added extra stress x

I had my second induction a couple of weeks ago. Baby was out 2 hours after they broke my waters and put me on the drip. I was in and out within 24 hours. They say these second babies come a lot faster and that was definitely my experience. My first took 13.5 hours from when they got me down to delivery to break my waters.
