Your child's receptive language?

How much do they understand you? Name response? Reacting to "no"? Looking at things or people you name? Pointing at things or people you name? Doing simple commands like "come here" or "give me that"? Or even more complex commands like "go get a toy from the other room?

It depends on age. My son is one (13 months) and understands come here but not go get a toy even in the same room. He seems to barely be starting to understand no. He looks at people and things he is familiar with that he sees everyday.

I really don’t know what the norm is at 13 months but yes my girl is doing all the above. She points a lot at dada (he’s deployed so I have a lot of pics hanging up). She points at birds and planes flying overhead. She shakes her head no when she doesn’t want want something. She listens to come here when she feels like it. I don’t think I’ve asked her to get something from another room though.

My almost 14 month old, responds to all of these. If you call his name he will do one of 2 things. Look at you, or say yeah/what. My son completely understands what the word “no” means but listening is a different story. Sometimes he listens, sometimes he doesn’t. If I point at my son or something, he will always point back and if I tell him to come to me or bring me something, he does it every single time.
