Tips for loud GSD

I have to get up at 5:30 to walk/run with my GSD, but in true GSD fashion, she’s loud. She gets super excited to go out, and now that she’s familiar with the routine, I can’t seem to get her out the house without waking my toddler. Any tips?

I would attempt some kind of music background noise to distract her from your toddler something that will keep him/her settled but is she cracking on she looks old? It maybe too late to get her in a new routine if that’s what’s she’s done for years but there’s ways with toys and treats to distract her from making the noises! we also have a Gsd and he’s the same but our kids are used to loud noises so it’s never affected them, it’s just a Gsd thing haha x

@Georgina Pearson yeah she’s 12 so she’s definitely getting on a bit! Maybe I’ll try her with a toy! I don’t usually take one because it’s too dark for me to comfortably let her off the lead to fetch anything, but it definitely might help getting her out the house a bit better!

Police use classical music to calm their GSDs when their in their kennels. We've used it for my mums GSD cross lab and our GSD cross Husky. It definitely works to keep them calm

Do the routine a few times during the day, take her out, don’t take her out, mix it up a little. She is barking because it’s predictable and she is excited so make it less predictable.

Vary routine and get her used to doing the steps up to going out, without going out. It stops the excitement building up

I work 8-6 and my partner works late, so in the week, it’s the only time I’ve got to take her out so it’s difficult to vary the routine and ensure she still gets out for a walk 🥲 I’ll definitely try the music though.
