Colostrum 🍼

As we are all getting near the end of our pregnancies, I am seeing a lot about colostrum. With my first I was told to hand express only. But I have seen a few posts about people pumping. Just curious as to what everyone is doing? I didn't manage much with my first and I ended up being induced not long after 37 weeks!! Thank you X

I’m a first time mum so no experience from earlier. I collect by hand expressing and produce 20-30ml a day 🙂 I’ve tried a pump few times but just don’t get any with that, also I have no idea if the pump is the right size for me whatsoever as I don’t have any experience, but so far hand expressing has been working very well for me 🤩 I collected 8 1ml syringes from midwife and freezed them in order to take them with me to the hospital, but otherwise I’m collecting the 20-30ml to a breastmilk storaging bag.

I haven’t started collecting yet waiting till my partners birthday as I’ve heard it can sometimes bring on labour lol. But I’m planning to hand express too my boobs have been super sore yesterday and today so no idea if that’s linked in anyway

I’m hand expressing only. I would have thought pumping at this stage would cause overproduction and possible mastitis later?

I was told hand expressing only I have been just collecting a small amount the last couple of days ☺️ something is better than nothing!

I am mixing both, at first hand expression wasn’t giving me barely anything but found the more I do the more I am getting. And tbh using the pump to get used to using it

Hand expression only ☺️ pumping before your milk actually comes in is not recommended by the NHS

My midwife said today she doesn’t recommend pumping until BF is established and to hand express only. She said obviously she can’t control what people do in their own home but that was her advice x

I’ve been told hand expressing only too. And not to worry if you don’t get any as everyone is different and it has no bearing on whether you will be able to breastfeed

I’m not BF so tried hand expressing which is what the midwife said to do anyway. Got nothing, not even a drop! Given up now🤣

I’ve been trying to hand express and getting barely anything. Gonna keep trying 🤞🏽

I’ve been hand expressing I’m 37 weeks. Felt like I didn’t get anything for the first week and was bout to give up. Filled 2 1 ml syringes today and feels much easier than a few days ago x

NHS recommend to hand express only
