What do contractions feel like?

Hey ladies, this is my first and I'm due Nov 4th. Suddenly started experiencing some very intense pain but I can't tell if it's a contraction or not. It comes and goes but doesn't fully subside. Are they supposed to stop entirely to give us a break or just get gentle for a while before peaking again? Any advice is welcome, would love to hear your input.

Contractions feel a lot like period cramps at first .. they come in waves of pain and then it completely stops. If you experience pain cramps every 5 minutes for 1 hour straight .. head to the hospital.. you’re in labor!!

@Kimberly I've been having period cramps for a few days now, but this is way more intense. Glad to know it stops completely though ty!

@Kimberly I’ve been having this feeling for weeks but they tell me it’s nothing unless they start getting more intense and stop me they said if you can talk through it then it’s not a contraction

Also you will feel a very intense dull ache on your back sacrum area, thats how i felt mine getting more intense. Like almost to the point of not wanting to move. Wishing you a healthy labor and baby!

We have the same due date! Yes I would head to the hospital if the pain is slowly getting stronger. Low back and belly. Like someone else said it feels like cramps but worse.

@Emilee You can talk through some of them, it’s when it’s time for labor is when you can’t talk thru them. My mom & sister both were able to fully talk through their contractions until they were 3-5 mins apart.

Mine felt like intense period cramps

@Emilee I was able to talk through them, mine went immediately into 5 min apart for 1 hour.. just like waves of bad cramps. I was kind of in denial that I was in labor, but I was exactly 40 weeks. When I went to the hospital I was 3 cm dilated and immediately got the epidural, so I’m thinking it would have definitely gotten more painful over time

@Emilee I fell like that’s not entirely true. I was being monitored and they said I was having super intense contractions and I barely felt them and was laughing and talking like normal

Mine felt like I was having back spasms in the mid/lower back area, close to the spine. It was super tight muscle that was in constant soreness/tightness and sometimes would feel pulled or strained. I didn't know they were contractions until after I went in to labor. I had them for about a week before labor. I just thought I pulled my back muscle really really bad lol 😆

@Emilee I was able to talk somewhat through all of mine until my baby was crowning and it was time to push and i went completely natural.
