Potty training

My son is 3. He has no interest in potty training apart from sitting on the toilet for fun. I’ve been trying to have him sit on it regularly and try to potty, but he’s only peed in it once. I tried the potty training underwear, but he will just sit in them wet. Won’t even say anything about it I just have to notice and get him changed. I really thought he’d find being wet uncomfortable and want to get it off him, but he doesn’t care apparently. I’m not sure what to try next. What has worked for you guys?

We're in the same boat here. He's used the toilet several times though. He's just inconsistent in telling us he needs to go. He doesn't like to stop playing to quickly go to the bathroom so he has a lot of accidents. Like you said, being wet or having poop in his undies/pullups is apparently not uncomfortable for him 🤦🏾‍♀️ it's frustrating.

We are the exact same! Has zero interest in it, doesn’t care about sitting in wet diapers or wet trainers, he doesn’t even regularly tell us when he poos, we have to ask him. We practice sitting on the toilet in the morning and at night and before lunch, he just doesn’t care.

@Natalie yep my son too. He also has no signals that he’s going. Like a lot of ppl talk about grunting or hiding to poop. It’s a surprise every time. He’ll do it while he’s eating even 😂 never says he needs to go will only say he went (and only sometimes.) ughhh

How do you feel about bribery 😆 my daughter's teacher was giving her mini marshmallows and at home sometimes she got money, quarters. We stopped the quarters once she had it down or we'd be broke.

Same boat mine is 3 too 🙄 has no interest and never tells me she needs to go

@Jennifer I am totally on board with bribery if it works 🤣 as much as he loves sugar this is a great idea. I love marshmallow idea too because it’s tiny. I’ll try this!!

My son didn’t have much interest in it until the week before his 3rd birthday. He won’t tell me if he needs to go but he’ll pee in the potty if I set a timer for an hour and 15 minutes and give him a 15 minute warning. We have a potty chart and he gets a new hot wheels car every time it is completed. At this point we only need to change diapers 2 or 3 times a day, and he tells me almost immediately he needs to be changed. Don’t ask me how to get him to poop in the potty because I don’t know yet.

I'm in the same boat but the one thing that's helped us is a timer (he wouldn't listen to me telling him to go potty, but would listen to the timer) now not sure how to get him off the timer 😅

We’re in the middle of it too. We had to start a sticker potty chart and giving an m&m for peeing or pooping in the potty in order to motivate my daughter. We got a small portable toilet so we can carry it with us throughout the house, a music book she is only allowed to read on the potty, and a doll potty for her toys to go on to help with motivation as well. It was 3-4 weeks of pretty much never peeing in the potty, now she will go 1-2 times per day in the potty which is progress. It’s slow but she’s starting to get it

@Tabby and @Rebecca - between the two of you, you inspired me to order a timer and potty chart. I have a cheap potty chart that came in a pack of training undies but this one is magnet and reusable and easier to hang up etc. I’m gonna get this boy trained!!! lol

Good luck!

Good luck! I started with the potty chart too and that helped inspire him to start going and the timer helped him keep it going !

I’m trying the coin method we just got her a piggy bank 😂
