ADVISE

I need advise I’m a work from home mom we got out 4 month old puppy 2 months ago we’ve tried everything she keeps just peeing everywhere she doesn’t care where it is trying to potty train her is hard now she’s peeing on our couch which is fabric and I’m not sure what to do!!! I know she’s still young but I’m afraid if she keeps doing it we will have to rehome because we are apt living and she’s ruining a lot of tile and carpet. We take her out a lot and she’ll still come in the home and pee she’s a pug/weenie mix

I would have a puppy gate/ play pen situation for her to be enclosed in a smaller space. Not allow her full access to the house and lay down some pee pads and her bed in the play pen, so she only has space to be on her clean bed or on the pee pads. They should naturally not want to pee where they sleep so she would pee on the pad when she needs to. You can also take her out of the play area to the yard every few hours to give her the opportunity to pee outside.

If and when she pees outside get overly excited and cheer her on/ congratulate her in an excited playful voice. Will help reinforce good behavior = pee outside

So is the puppy 6 months now? Small dogs are always going to be harder to potty train. I'd crate train.

At that age they need to be either constantly supervised or confined to a smaller space. Their bladders are little so they have to go out at least every couple hours and they need consistency so that they can learn. It takes time to potty train a puppy.

She’s crate trained and I’ve tried the crate and her pads she’ll lay in her pee.

She’s 4 months old. We got her at 2 months

Do not use puppy pads. That’s letting them know it’s okay to do. Keep her off the couch. Keep her in a small area for now. If she’s crate trained the crate should be SMALL. If she can go and lay away from the pee/poo then it’s too big. Take her out more frequently and especially after she eats/drinks/sleeps/plays. Some dogs take longer than others

We stopped puppy pads immediately

We got two puppies from the same breeder (half siblings, 3.5 years apart) and the puppy, female, is harder to housebreak... but she listens to commands better. They're all different and sometimes it is so frustrating but she's barely 6 months old so I am trying to remind myself to be patient. She didn't really start to catch onto our routine until 5 months so you might just have to keep her confined, pee or not. Try to have a clear routine to help. Like alarm goes off, go outside, get ready for work/get baby uo whatever, go outside, eat breakfast, go outside. Something predictable she can plan on. Debatable opinion: The puppy pads don't make it ok for her to go in the house. They made it easier to clean up when she did. We still scolded if we caught her and moved her outside even if she was on them and now she goes out once at night but otherwise sleeps in bed with us without accidents. She will get there but she's so little

We take her out before bed she knows the nighttime routine but as soon as I picked her up or set her down she peed all over me and the floor she wouldn’t stop

Do you scold her for peeing inside? Peeing all over you when you pick her up sounds more like a fear response and if she had that much pee then you may not be taking her outside often enough.

We didnt use puppy pads instead We bought reusable dog diapers for our dog to wear during the day and kenneled at night. Even when she peed/pooed outside she'd still come inside and pee/poo. It can take up to a year to fully potty train. I did every hour at first and then went to 2 and so on.We also did positive reenforcement and even used training treats when she peed/pooped outside. Letting her out the same time every morning and to bed the same time, just like you would a small child. Eventually she got it, hang in there!
