Not talking yet, but climbing stairs with support

So, my son is super advanced with gross motor skills but not talking AT ALL. Apparently, the way he can go up and down the stairs while I hold his hand is 18-24 months milestone. But in communication, he doesn't meet most of the milestones for his age group. He doesn't even point at all. Is it normal for communication milestones to be held back while gross motor is advancing?

P.S. Just to clarify he does babble. He used to imitate a lot more, and wave, but lost interest since he started walking. He understands some words and commands, and knows his name. He is just nowhere near saying anything, even incorrectly/approximately, and nowhere near pointing. He just touches images in books with his index finger, but not to show or respond where something is. It's not interactive.

My little guy (14 months tomorrow) is the same way. Basically running, climbing stairs, claps, etc. but really only babbling. We THINK he says dog but I’m not really sure. He does understand what we’re saying like if we ask him to bring something to us or if we say go pet comet or nova he knows the difference between the two dogs. But no real words yet

We’ve been in a similar place with our 13M boy. Something to consider if you haven’t looked into it already - our baby has had continual problems with fluid in his ears and that can impact verbal and communication development.

Totally normal. I had a nurse tell me that often when they excel in one they lag a bit in the other. It’s not a real concern until after he turns 2

Totally normal, it's easier for the brain to focus development in one area or the other.

My pediatrician said it was normal! My son only says mama and dada and no other words, and no pointing. He walks and goes up and down stairs easily though
