Breastfeeding

My son feeds for around 4 minutes a time, maximum of 9 minutes. Some babies are just really efficient feeders. My son was born at 9lbs 5 and now weighs 12lbs 1 at 5 weeks old, so he is definitely gaining weight. As long as they are gaining weight, weeing and poohing and are content, I'd just embrace the shorter feeds! X

We average 20-35 minutes. Last night’s 4am feed was 45 minutes 😅 I’m was told anything from 5-45 minutes is normal!

@Sam Hey, can I ask how many times in 24hrs? My baby is also feeding for 10mins on average, sometimes 15, rarely under 10 or over 15 and it worries me she isn't eating enough. She was 200g above her birth weight by day 10 so that was great but now she has been gaining slower than average 👀👀😬🙈

@Gabi I'd say between 12 and 15 times in 24 hours? He feeds more during the day than the night. How many times does your daughter feed? X

8 weeks and around 10-20 mins now thank GOD!! Before it was like 20-60 mins

Both my kids are leisurely feeders, so can take anywhere between 10-30mins. They both had tongue tie so the timing has gotten shorter over time. Both have strong suction once latched. If they start falling asleep I gently use my pinky finger to run up under their jaw to ‘wake them up’ again and encourage them to swallow and feed

@Sam OMG 12-15 x? How are you doing that? I feed 8x. Sometimes it is 9, rarely 10, once it was 7x. I cannot possible feed more often for my mental health and physical too 😬😬🙈😃 So respect to you.

@Gabi I dream of 8 feeds a day 😂 I’m feeding on average anywhere betweeen 3-4 hours a day… that’s sometimes many short 5/10 min sessions or lesser bigger 45 min sessions. I genuinely don’t feel like I can do anything other than sit and be milked dry 😂😂😂 he’s packing on the pounds tho so I can’t complain, the boobies are working well 😅

@Gabi it's more around the 12 mark, just some days are 15. He only feeds 3 times in the night though so I can handle the daytimes. I'm feeding on demand so it is what it is. It's not forever x

@Chloe I also feel like a milk vending machine 💀 way more than 8 feeds a day 😂

@Sam I also feed on demand, whenever I see baby wants to eat or she is unsettled so I offer the boob. She doesn't seem to require it more often. But I do check the time so when she's asleep, she doesn't go too long without food.
