Does your baby say words yet?

I am interested as my son had his 10-12 month review and scored low for communication because he cant enact nursery rhymes by himself, follow instructions or say three words that mean something?? They said theyre not worried but i feel like that is so advanced for 10 months old so are all your babies doing this??

The AQA ages and stages questionnaire is covering milestones up to pretty much 13 months (and beyond) and so it’s not that your son is behind, because those things aren’t necessarily all expected at 10mo, but at 12mo he might be doing some/all of it. And in the scoring, there’s no way to adjust for the age difference. I wouldn’t worry about it. If you’re happy with his development don’t give it a second thought.

My baby babbles just saying “baba” and “hiya” from time to time as well x

only babbling ..ba ba and he did for few days ma ma ma and he stopped now..not full words , i think it’s too much pressure, they are so little..🙄

Our baby says a variation of “good girl” to the dog, she used to say hello but now says hi. She babbles and talks non-stop and some of it sounds like words but nothing super clear yet! I think its a lot of pressure, all babies move at different paces. I don’t think she can enact any nursery rhymes because we don’t sing them to her (I don’t know them tbh because I grew up abroad). I agree it feels very advanced for 10m!

Ummm... no, my baby is normal, not a rocket scientist 🙃 She says "mamamamama" when she's sad and goes "weoohweeeohweoooh" while dancing so I believe that can be interpreted as her singing? 😅

She says mum nan umm all the time. But has said dad and Daddy a few times x

Nope babbling only over here and constantly shouting ‘dah’ or ‘doo’. No words. Don’t worry about it perfectly normal, all kids are different x

Ok these comments have made me feel a lot better! We have been in hospital a lot with my other child and i felt awful that i perhaps hadnt done enough for my son. My son also does babbling a lot and makes different noises but nothing that means anything just baba or dada. I cant imagine him talking atm 😂

@Deb this is amazing!

@Kelly this is so cute that she says good girl haha

My mum and I are in stitches at how ridiculous this is. Babies don’t do stuff like that at this age. My mum had four babies and had worked in childcare and thinks this is just ridiculous. My baby babbles, says a lot of vowel sounds like ‘baba’, ‘mama’ and so on. He’s waved a few times but doesn’t always do it. He certainly can’t follow instructions or enact a nursery rhyme I mean bloody hell. What do these people want?!

She may say words, but she was a slow roller, rolled once at 4 months, and then didn't do it again for months, lol. "Mum" started as "mumumum" when crying (she hated tummy time) and went from there. I have no idea where Nan came from as she's only seen her nan a handful of times. I do talk to her a lot, and we sing songs, but I'm also a nursery nurse with 16 years of experience, and her dad is very involved when he's not at work. She's a proper Daddy's girl lol. X

My little one wasn’t doing those things at 10 months but he’s 18 months now and his talking etc is great! I think that questionnaire is quite ambitious! Don’t stress about it 😊

Mama, dada , nan nana, bababab 🤣 not sure what bababa is but she thinks it’s Something 🤣

Well not really? He’s so tiny still, not expecting him to actually say any words just yet! He shouts “mamamamamamama” and crab walks after me if I go somewhere else in the house. He babbles loads tho, he’s a little parrot I love it 🤣🤣🤣 we’re gonna have lots of conversations!!! One thing he does I find adorable is when he wants his dummy, either drops it or is starting to feel tired, he’ll put his fingers in his mouth and says “tata” which I think is his way of saying chupeta (pacifier in Portuguese, where I’m from)! So yes, but not expecting him to be a Sheldon Cooper, he’s got time 🤣😍😍

I never had any questionnaire or scores for our review. In terms of speaking I was just asked if he is making sounds ma da and ba sounds . My boy will be 1 in 10 days and is babbling but mainly growling or blowing raspberries still. He has said mam or mama a few times over the past couple weeks where he's really concentrated and then smiled to himself. Due date was 9th Dec.

Just the normal babble, and ‘tat’ (cat) we get out of the car and his little pointy finger points around for the neighbours cat and then it’s all very exciting. Anything moving is a tat 😂

My son literally had his review yesterday and as much as my health visitor was completely understanding, I walked out of that appointment defeated because of the questionnaires. My son is 10months and has only just managed to start crawling, which we’re really proud of. He doesn’t pull himself up on the furniture yet but does try to reach for things that are at a height. He literally only babbles and says dada and gaga maaa. I’m so glad I saw this post because I thought I wasn’t doing enough as a mother. I think at 10 months there’s no way you can expect your child to do so much. He’s still a baby baby in my eyes

My LO crawled to my fiance when he came home on Monday, clawed himself up his jeans to standing, looked up straight into his face and said "Daddy!" Clearly and happily. That's the first time ever he's said a word properly, clearly understanding what it is he's saying and what it means 🥰🥹🥹 he's babbled dada and mama and baba n stuff for ages but he's learning 2 languages so it's common to take a bit longer if that's the case. For reference he is 1 this weekend. Mostly he points, nods and says Dah! Bah! Veh veh veh bah ba? Da! Daaaaaa. Dahhh.. ma vah Da. Dah. Dah!!! Im not in a rush for words, this stage is so frigging adorable 🥰🥰🥰🥰 We had our review at 10ms and he was marking well on motor skills and mobility but my HV didn't make comments one way or another, just filled in the paperwork and sent us away early. I felt meh after as I thought it'd be an I depth discussion about his development but it was just.. not a lot

We was told our 11 month old is doing more then some toddlers she visits 🙈😂 think it all depends on genetics n what you do with your kid etc as every child is different. Every child is good at different things and learns at their own pace. My lg has been walking since 8 months can say loads of baby words n is starting babbling conversations loool, understands a lot n is full of surprises each day, my son was the same but nowhere near as fast as her. The health visitor said the more you do the more baby does, only so much a child can learn from a screen. But still each child’s brain works differently n that’s ok

I get moms that children aren’t doing as much will say you can’t expect them to, but they wouldn’t have those questions if it wasn’t a general thing children at that age do. They ask certain questions to better understand your child not to make you feel deflated, every child is different try not to take it to heart x
