First period

Well, I finally got my first period since having my baby. My supply also is in the dumps, so I probably won't be able to breastfeed for much longer. Has anyone been able to get their supply back up? I caught a cold and that really reduced it. I'm barely able to pump half an ounce, every 5ish hours now.

Hi mama! There’s hope. I just got mine last week and experienced the same thing. Today, I had a little bit more in my supply then I have during PMS and the week of my period. I hope you experience the same! ❤️

Red meats worked for me, I also make lactation Reese’s which is basically peanut butter, powdered sugar butter with flax seed and brewers yeast covered in chocolate

Yes! This happened to me too when I got my period back, I was really worried. But I ate lots of oatmeal, started taking a calcium magnesium supplement, and drank a lactation drink mix I found at Target and just kept latching my son and pumping as normal - he did fine we made it through and was able to keep EBF my son we are going on 10 months now. So there is definitely hope ❤️

Hi mama! My supply dips so so low before and during my period and it’s the most frustrating thing ever. Now I’ve also gotten to the point where I’m literally pumping all day to make 1 4oz bottle for my girl, and now I’m sick so I’m worried I’ll continue to lose more. But I know that even 50ml a day makes a massive difference in the antibodies you can provide them so I will continue pumping most by knowing even that can help her! (Especially with it being cold and flu season now). I will say I have tried the cookies, vitamins and all in between and nothing ever helped me and I felt broken when others said it worked but no matter what happens you’re doing great mama!!

@Abby thank you so much. This gives me hope!

@Christine thank you! I'm going to try both. I made lactation cookies when I first started breastfeeding so I'm going to need to make them again

@Brooke thank you so much! Yeah, maybe it's the combination of catching a cold and then getting my first period pp that made it take a dip. I was eating so much oatmeal from January - March when I was trying to establish my supply. Time to start that up again. I was hoping to make it to at least a year. This gives me hope that I can at least drag it out for a couple more months at least!

@Natalie thank you so much!! I appreciate it. Your response and others have given me hope that I can bring it back up. I cried this morning because I felt like this was the end. I hope it's not. I've been latching my daughter often so hopefully it'll come back after my period is done.

Fingers crossed it comes back for you!! I have a hard time actually believing it but it’s important to remember your worth is more than just your milk supply and stress won’t help bring it back up so just trying your best to relax works wonders!

@Natalie thank you so much 🤗

I got my period 7 months pp while exclusively pumping. For me the supply didn’t establish after that and now even though I feel so sorry cause I wanted to continue till 1 year old I have to give up cause I barely produce 2-3 oz from both breasts 😔

@Imelda if you have it in you to keep going (my goal was also to hit one) even 50ml a day helps baby get so many antibodies and nutrients! My supply kept dropping with work stress and then getting sick it takes me 4 pump sessions during the day to get a bottle but it’s still helping baby out. If you want to hit your goal you still can, even if not how you hoped-that’s how I’m trying to look at it

Your supply dips during menstruation, but it should come back up afterwards. I know it’s hard though mama!

@Imelda I hope you can make it to a year if you're still wanting to go. It's so tough when it starts to take a dip. I'm there with you in solidarity 🙏

@Alex thank you so much. I'm going to keep up my routine and try the things that the ladies above have suggested. I wish I would have posted this sooner because I was so sad this morning but I have hope now.

When I state my cycle my supply goes down a lot! Every time! CHUG water litteraly as much as you can even at night. Ana make sure you eating a good amount of good calories

@Natalie but being alone all day and cooking 4 meals for the baby it is very hard for me to find the time to pump 4 times a day. My LG likes food much more than milk and she barely drinks a bottle of milk during the day pushing the bottleDuring the night I offer her the breast but unlike before that she wanted to breastfeed now she pushes it away with both hands and it is so disheartening. She will have 2 bottles of milk during the night but she wakes up 6-8 times during the night and is been 6 weeks like this. I’ve had 3 times mastitis the first 3 months the baby was born cause she wouldn’t latch and the pump was not enough, had multiple blocked ducts and severe pain, than I had oversupply and I pumped 7-8 times a day the first 6 months pp and saved a lot of milk storage bags in the freezer but I tried many ways and baby doesn’t want it because the lipase so I donated most of them. I was determined for her to have the best so I gave her breastmilk the first 7 months sacrificing myself

And then I got my period and in the same time my LG catches a virus and was hospitalised for 3 days and milk supply dropped drastically. After that was very difficult to bring it back and with no support doing everything on my own and her not liking milk too much anymore I am trying not to give up so for the moment she has only 70 ml of breastmilk a day but I don’t know for how long i can continue. At least I am happy that between all the struggles I managed to give her all the antibodies the 7 months first months of her life

Thank you incognito I will try and do my best but is becoming so difficult 😔. Offering my solidarity to you as well 🙏. Hoping the milk will come back
