Like Niamh mentioned it could be CMPA. Easiest thing to do (in theory 😅) would be to cut all milk from your diet and see if it makes a difference. Give it time, it can take weeks to exit your system fully but it’s so so common for littles to have a cows milk intolerance or allergy. Our little one did and I know many many more personally and cutting it was a game changer ❤️🩹 Sending love it’s to go through 💩 Also perhaps check for tongue tie (midwives generally aren’t qualified to do this properly so see a specialist), and consider osteopathy to see if there’s any tension x
For what it's worth, I haven't had dairy for 11 years and my breastfed daughter had "colic" really badly for the first few weeks of her life. I'd look up "the period of purple crying" If you find something that helps, fantastic, but if nothing is helping it's useful to know that often there's nothing we can do except ride it out and wait for their gut to mature. It's a really intense and challenging period, but thankfully it's short-lived. If you've tried it all and nothing helps, just know that all your baby really needs is to know that you're there with them. You'll get through it together
Use infacol before every feed, it sorted my baby out within days!!! He settles so well, drinks full bottles and sleeps so well at night, it’s safe to use as often as you need, we do a full dropper on the back of the tongue just before each bottle and he farts and burps so much better!! Honestly I swear by it, £7 on Amazon but you’ll be able to get it anywhere!! My baby is a month old now but we’ve been using since 2 weeks old, completely safe and made him a different baby!!
Thank you all so much, the health visitor has just been and said we just have to ride it out which is slightly devastating but it will pass. I've got infacol on standby and I'll look at my diet to see if that helps. Other than that I guess I'd better get my daytime naps in to deal with the long nights!
My 6 week old boy has the same issue! His health visitor said today she thinks he has an intolerance so I’ve been told to book a GP appointment to see if we can get special formula for him (he’s combi feed with breastmilk too)
Hi, I thought i had a case of colic on my hand, hours on end of screaming crying unable to put baby down until she was exhausted and fell asleep. I honestly feel for you! But someone told me to try Cranial therapy from an osteopath and honestly it’s changed her! When your baby is like this you will try anything and I’m so eternally grateful that I did. It’s super gentle- maybe look it up! Wishing you the best of luck and I hope it all settles for you really soon xx
Oh and I also exclusively breastfeed and there’s no way a dummy would have worked before the cranial therapy session! Now she takes the dummy so it’s helped us sooooo much during wake windows whenever she gets fussy. I’ll be having a couple more sessions- honestly I’ll keep going back forever if I have to 😂 my baby was a dream baby at night but hysterical all day and before bed at night 😭 xx
We went to the osteopath for colic, did wonders after a session or two he was a different baby. Honestly give it a try! Hope baby is ok xx
@Kristen 100% this. I started using this for mine and it has made a huge difference. She still gets trapped wind at about 5am and needs bicycle legs etc to get it out but compared to how often it was affecting her before, this is amazing. She hardly burped before and after a few days of using this, I'm managing to get at least one burp out of her per feed. I've only been using it for a few days. She's 5 weeks old tomorrow. I'm so glad I got it. The NHS website says there are no known side effects and the product itself isn't actually digested so it isn't absorbed by the baby which is reassuring. I find she quite likes the orange flavour too 😂😂
Honestly thank you all so much, I'm going to try everything you've all suggested 💝
I dont have a colic baby so not sure if this is helpful or not so feel free to ignore, we have a bouncer, similar to the baby bjorn style one but a lot cheaper 😅 and it seems to really relieve her gas / bowels. She's been in it 5 times total and needed changing 5 times! X
Infacol doesn't seem to help our baby. Has anybody tried gripe water which I have had recommended to me by a few friends now?
@Natalie Gripe water is such a classic and used for many many years! It’s from 1month and I’m looking forward to being able to use it for baby but it’s not something you give as freely as infacol. I’d personally use it as minimal as possible but I’ve already got a bottle on standby as I’ll definitely be using it to help relieve my LO x
I’m not sure why this has popped up for me as my LB is 11 months, but i will say i experienced similar when he was newborn…after being persistent with GP’s & refusing to accept ‘colic’ as a diagnosis, we finally got referred to a consultant who told us that colic is actually usually a symptom rather than a diagnosis itself. My LB was diagnosed with CMPA & Reflux by this consultant, & within a few days of being on CMPA formula he was a completely different baby! Might be worth seeing if you can talk to a GP, i’m not saying it’s cmpa or reflux, but it’s definitely worth checking for anything else going on if you’re struggling to find a solution yourself, i know it can be very exhausting xx
