@Sarah I haven’t been discharged yet and honestly after getting up and moving for the first time I don’t think I want to be discharged haha, I’m glad to know for you by the end of week one you was on nothing anymore hopefully it’ll be similar for me! Only had my c section 24 hours ago which is 1 day
I had 2 nights in after mine. What they got you on? Dihydrocodeine? You’re in the worst day today and tomorrow and then it gets so much easier ❤️ the theatre drugs take a day to two to leave your system and they masked a lot of the discomfort but once you get into a routine with meds you’ll feel better. I think I was dihydrocodeine and 400mg ibuprofen alternating every 3/4 hours and it really helped. I missed one once though and the pain came rushing back so set alarms xx
Well done for getting yourself up and about quickly! It doesn't feel great now but it'll be helping you in the long run. I had an emergency section 9 weeks ago and it was a lot in those early days, but I can honestly say that I saw improvement every day. Every day is a little bit better.
I had my section on a Sunday evening, I walked for the first time late Monday to be transferred to a ward (wow it was sore!), Tuesday morning I was scared I'd be discharged when walking felt so painful that managing any stairs (to get into my house) felt so far away, but you surprise yourself! We were ready to go home on the wednesday with regular paracetamol and ibuprofen, and dihydrocodeine for when the pain really kicked in(ie when i needed to move!). I struggled in my own bed, going from laying to sitting, so we used this adaptor that looks a bit like a sunlounger to sleep more upright. We used that for a week, then just a couple of extra pillows to prop me up. Laughing hurt 🤣 and lactulose as a stool softener was 100% necessary. I was amazed by how little I needed to pee, especially after being pregnant - that was a huge relief as it meant one less reason to stand! Take any and all help offered at home- resting really will have you on your feet again sooner.
I had an emergency c section nearly two months ago and the first two weeks for me were super painful, especially going from seated to stood. Walking 50m down the road felt massive in the beginning! I found it really helpful to keep a written log of when I’d had pain medication so I wasn’t leaving it too long and guessing timings. I must have slept with a mountain of pillows to sleep upright and my husband would always be the one to pick up the baby and hand her to me so I wasn’t using my core too much. Also buy big pants. Nothing feels so awful like clothing rubbing on your scar. Big soft knickers made a world of difference to me! Hope you start to feel more comfy soon!
I'm assuming they have you on dihydrocodeine and paracetamol? You can ask for oromorph as well in between. Then when you get home, if they only discharge you with a couple of days of dihydrocodeine, make sure you go to the GP and ask for more if you need it. I ended up getting a weeks worth and then another week after as I was still struggling, but after that point I had paracetamol for a couple of days then stopped altogether
Day 3 was the worst for me and by day 10 it was extremely manageable x
What meds did they discharge you with? Day 2 is the toughest day as the theatre and hospital drugs wear off and your normal pain management needs to start. Make sure you are taking your meds religiously on time so your pain levels don’t breakthrough. Being mobile may hurt but it’s the main thing that aids your recovery and makes every day easier. Wear your compression stocking too to reduce any swelling and lower clot risks. It does get easier but you need to control your pain in the first week with meds. By the end of week 1 I was on nothing anymore and felt no more pain than period cramps when I was out walking. You’ve had an emergency too which is more stressful than an elective. Your body is recovering from the trauma of labour, hours of exhaustion and the surgery on top of that. That’s a lot so go easy on yourself xx
