My kids never been separated from me over night and they are 3 years and 19 months. I don't feel comfortable leaving them with anyone. I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable if they are not settling at night because they are not in there own usual bed. I would prefer them to come over to my house. So baby is feel more secure in their own home what they used to. This way the cat can be taken care of too. Personally I wouldn't buy a cot for only a few use because it's bulky and we don't have space to store it but it is your choice if you can do that ask them to buy it for you but tell them this is for travelling as a family and not for them to leave the baby there. If you don't want to stay over at Xmas your partner should understand you, and put you first over the tradition and not stay. Let's have a chat with him how you feel. I hope everything goes well for you and your family ☺️
It’s completely up to you. The only time I have ever been separated from my son over night was when I had my daughter in May and he is 5. U do whatever makes you comfortable. X
We got a travel cot second hand from Facebook marketplace for £20, if you’re worried about the money that’s an option. Mines EBF and won’t take a bottle, so leaving her over night is not in the pipeline at the moment. However, the travel cot is useful for if we go to visit family for the day so we can put her down for naps. She hasn’t been willing to contact nap for a long time so until we got that any visits were limited to her wake windows.
It's more because I don't feel ready to leave him overnight and have no idea when that will change, in my mind atm I wouldn't personally plan to leave him overnight until he's atleast 2yrs, to me he's still a baby and I wouldn't want the grandparents taking that on so we can go away unless he was abit older. I just think we might not get much use out of one, In my mind we might go on a mini break as a family once or twice next year in the UK but other than that I'm not sure if there will be much use for it other than as a playpen at home 🤔 x
You wil be ready to leave your baby when you’re ready. Don’t feel pressured. Re. Travel cot we used ours all the time if we visited grandparents or friends for the day then he would nap in there or if we went away on holiday (I don’t like using hotel ones) we took our own. If you get the bigger ones they last till they are 3ish years old.
I left mine at about 9 months with his grandparents. They wanted to have him and it was really good for me. I had postnatal depression and it gave me time to be me not just mum. He is nearly 2 and has stayed there a number of times. He is so used to travelling and will sleep anywhere it makes it easier now he is older as friends children will only sleep in their own bed with a strict routine.
