Elective c section or vaginal birth

I just wanted to get peoples opinions or experiences on both. With my first pregnancy I had an emergency c section and I’ve read that there’s a high chance of that happening again once you’ve already had one so I have been offered an elective c section but have been given time to think about it but I just don’t know which is the best option. Trying to think of the pros and cons. With an Elective c section at least I’ll know when it’s happening to sort out childcare for my little one. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated xx

I’m in exactly the same boat. I had an emergency c section 2 years ago and I’m now 7 months pregnant. They have told me I can try for vaginal birth but will prep me for theatre just incase my scar opens up. It’s a tricky one because yes the c section would be easier in regards to childcare and how quick it is but the recovery is not nice (I’m sure you will agree) and with having 2 babies to look after this time i think the recovery will be harder. Good luck with what ever you chose

@Kerri snap! Almost 2 1/2 years ago and now am 31 weeks pregnant. I have never experienced a vaginal birth so am unsure of the recovery time but I imagine it’s quicker than a c section. Very true it is a tough recovery and part of me can’t imagine doing that with a toddler she gets upset when I sit on the sofa for too long now whilst pregnant and needing a bit of a rest haha so I can’t imagine what she would be like if I could hardly move

I have had 2 c sections, 1 elective due to GDM and 1 emergency because my mucus plug came out before time and previous scar. I’m now 34 weeks pregnant with my third which will also be a c section. With the surgery yes you get an idea of when it is going to happen, but nature has its own call it can be before also. So don’t stress. Women do go through successful VBAC as well. It is worth checking with the OBS consultant to know the pros and cons of VBAC and another section. Either way your baby comes, you only need to take care of your little one and yourself. With a section you need a little more care so that the stitches heal properly. But you can have chances of tear or episiotomy if the baby is big in vaginal birth, so it’s stitches down there as well. It’s entirely your choice, see what fits you better. I’m sure it will be the best for you and the baby 💪🏻 good luck

My elective was nothing short or marvellous and my recovery was 👌🏽

Look into VBAC groups so the best advice xx

In case you wanted some positive vaginal birth advice and story. I’ve had two vaginal births, one with an Epidural and my second with nothing. My second one was so lovely and I enjoyed every second of it ! It was quick and so was recovery so they do say the more babies the easier labour can be xx

I’m stuck on this too. Had an elective with my girl as she was breech. Part of me wants to try vaginal but I’m worried in case it goes wrong and I’d need emergency etc. also same as you with the elective, I can arrange childcare 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

@Scarlett looks like the decision is going to be made for me as they think baby is transverse ( side to side) so I’ve got 4 weeks to see if baby will move otherwise it’ll be a c section.
