Breastfeeding lump

I’ve developed a huge lump in my right breast in the last 24 hours after an overnight engorgement.. I spent the whole day trying to unclog it with baby but I feel like it’s only got bigger! Has anyone else experienced this? It’s not painful just a random large lump? What did you do to help? I tried massages in shower, warm compresses and massaging the lumps down towards the nipple while feeding. Is it possible I made it worse by poking it so much? I’m calling GP tomorrow

When Ive had a blocked duct I use a cold compress to reduce inflammation and take regular ibuprofen, it works really well for me

I had mastitis last week and best thing I found personally was light massage in a hot shower, I’ve seen other people fill a hakka with hot water and Epsom salt and wear that and it’s meant to help draw out the blocked milk! Worth a try xxx

@Chloe what were your early symptoms? I don’t have any redness or flu symptoms yet

@Abi I’m taking ibuprofen too and i did try a cold compress but I wasn’t sure if it needed warm or cold tbh. It got bigger after all the massages and warm compress, do you think it’s majorly inflamed?

I’ve also just recovered from mastitis! My symptoms were a super sore boob, firmness/lump feeling in said boob, hot and cold sweats and a really achy body (flu like feeling) and I had to take antibiotics but warm compress and hot showers help! I found if I over massaged it hurt more so just be softer than you think and don’t over do it! X

Thank you @Eli ! Did you also have just swelling/lump and no pain before it developed further? If so, how long do you reckon it took to get flu like symptoms?

I woke up with a huge hard lump and the entire boob was massive and incredibly sore. Feeding felt like razor blades and by lunchtime I had the most horrific flu. I never had any redness but the flu was the worst part. Xx

I second the cold compress and pain killers, that’s what worked for me / was recommended by health visitor. She also suggested to try cabbage leaves (it does seem there is some theory behind this on google) - mine got better before I tried that though so not sure if it works or not x

The first few days it was just a little tender and FULL but I thought nothing of it and then slowly over a few days the pain started and then the body aches and everything else developed over a few days! Paracetamol helped me too before I’d got to the doctors! X

Yeah don’t massage it too much, light strokes only - this post should help: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DBOH9DbtF5i/?igsh=a3ZoZTk3NGh5NTNj

Girls it was a clogged duct which I resolved with ibuprofen and cold compresses! THANK YOU
