General anaesthetic

Hi all, I have been told I have to have a planned c-section under a general anaesthetic due to some other medical issues I already had, I am unable to deliver naturally or have an epidural. Has anyone been through this and can share their experience? I’m less concerned with the actual procedure and more anxious about when me and dad will meet baby etc and how long it will take for us all to be together and also wondering if breastfeeding will be an issue? Would love to hear peoples experiences and how they found it?

Hi lovely! Slightly different situation, but I ended up having my cat 1 emergency c-section under general anaesthetic after my epidural failed so I could feel the procedure. For me, the whole thing was very traumatic, but I think if I knew I was having a c-section under GA at the start (like you do), it would have been a very different experience. My daughter was born at just before half 7 at night and me, my husband and my mother got to meet her at about half 9 when they'd brought me back from theatre and I'd come round from the anaesthetic. I can't remember much of that initial meeting due to the drugs in my system and being exhausted from a week of being induced before eventually having the c-section, but I can remember being in total awe of her. I really wanted to breastfeed, so pretty much as soon as I'd met her, the midwives helped me to feed her and then woke me up regularly throughout the night to get her to latch. Drop me a message whenever if you have any other questions, and I'll try to help xxx

@Charlotte thank you so much for sharing with me! I’m just struggling with the thought of waiting so long to meet the baby and not really being with it when I do. Thanks again, really lovely of you x
