How quick second time around?

I have a best friends wedding one week before my due date with my second child. It’s like 2.5 hour drive away from my hospital. With my first born, I remember laboring at home for about 6 hours before going to hospital and I was 5cm dilated. (My water never broke, I just started having contractions) I’ve been told the second time around it can be much quicker. Would it be a bad idea to be that far from my hospital so close to due date? For the second, do you go in right away when contractions start? I do not want a birth in the car situation, I would also like to have time for an epidural. :)

It really depends on your body, my 1st was 5 hours from start to birth ( induced) at 37 weeks due to high blood pressure, 2nd was 11 hours from start to birth ( induced) due to him being so big at 36 weeks, 3rd was spontaneous at 39 weeks 6 days from start to birth was 2 hours. I would personally try and be a lot closer to the hospital if you want an epidural, and avoid a car birth. But as I said depends on your body.

@Libby Did you make it to the hospital with your 3rd? That’s so fast!

I did make it to the hospital, the midwife checked baby heart and said we will take you to the ward, your not having bub tonight as your not in enough pain. I went to the ward, I went to pee, while the nurse got me a warm blanket, went to sit on the loo and his head was crowning, hit the emergency buzzer, the nurse walked in and just caught him. Then had to go back to the labour ward lol. My contractions were 1 min apart, but the midwife wouldn't believe me. She was shocked when when I cam back in a wheel chair 10 mins latter with a baby lol
